Tikka CTR feeding problem may not be the Mag
I'm new here and new to Tikkas. I have a Tikka t3 CTR that is having feeding problems and from what I have read I'm not the only one. Watched a few videos on Youtube suggesting a couple of different fixes i.e. re-bending springs and tweaking the magazine retention hole on the back of the mag.Tried those but really no improvement.
While working the action and watching the rounds feed I noticed that the rounds and rear of the magazine sit slightly behind and below the face of the bolt. sometimes if the round is forward in the mag the bolt will pick it up and feed properly. Sometimes the bolt will catch the round in the extraction groove, push the round forward and down and into the mag causing a nose up miss feed and sometimes if the round is all the way back it just slips over the round.
Is it possible the real problem is not the magazines but a slightly long bolt stop?? approx. 1/6″
Would shortening the bolt stop 1/16″ cause any other problem? I have seen mods to bolt stops when re-chambering to longer rounds.
Any thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
