Tikka CTR barrel length – 50 vs 60cm – how do they measure it? Help needed!
Posted by Carlito on August 20, 2017 at 6:07 amHey guys,
I just received my first Tikka – it´s a CTR.
I really like the gun, it´s absolutely nicely made!
Though, I wonder about the barrel length:
The CTR is available both in 50cm and in 60cm. I ordered it in 60cm since I believe, I get the best out of the two worlds. When I picked it up from my dealer I already thought, it was pretty short.
At home I measured the barrel (just the barrel, nothing else) and it is roughly 49cm.
Called my dealer for assistance and he said it is definitely the 60cm version I got.
Now I am wondering if my measuring skills are just insufficient, if Tikka has a different understanding of barrel length then me or….whatever.
Could one of the CTR owners around here (who is certain about his guns barrel length) measure his barrel and tell me whether I am wrong or my order went wrong? Many thanks in advance,

Easy way to check just go onto Tikka's web site and see what the overall length should be for your barrel length

Hey Larkin,
did that before of course – website states that there are two options: 50cm and 60cm barrels (unfortunately there are no drawings that make clear what they regard being a barrel).
I measured about 49cm. Just the barrel from tip to toe.
Now I was wondering if I had to include the “breech” or system whatever that´s called.
I was ordering that extra length for a reason…now I´m a little bit confused and disappointed.
Talked to my dealer to clarify whether something went wrong with my order but he assured me everything was okay (without seeing the weapon).
Man, that sucks!Best, Carlito

Box says 24″ which equals 60cm.
Meter stick still reads 49 cm.
Just because a box reads 24″ doesn´t make the barrel any longer…Fun thing: Serial number on box and gun match up.
I guess somebody messed up somewhere…I will upload pics later.
Thanks guys

You are not including the chamber based on your tape. Your picture is dark on my computer and it's hard to see exactly where you are measuring from.

No, I didn´t start measuring from the face of the bolt. I started from where the barrel is screwed in the receiver. You might want to add a few centimeters to compensate for that – I guess that would make it a real 50cm barrel but definitely not a 60cm one.
I cross checked the results by measuring 60cm backwards from the muzzle: The meter stick then ends at the rear end of the breech (the one closer to the shooter). That can´t be right.
I will contact my dealer and if necessary the importer.
Too bad that happened… -
I think you have a 50 cm barrel , not the 60 you wanted just take it back to the shop and show them , if it's a good Rfd they should swop it over with the minimum of fuss , if not threaten legal action and all the bad press that intails

Here the end of the story:
Told my dealer about the barrel – wouldn't believe me.
At least he asked the importer – he wouldn't believe dealer and me…label says 24 inch so I can't measure properly.
Everybody believed in that fxxxing label, not in what I had on my desk.
Later importer found out that he scewed up and dispatched wrong gun.
Now guns have been swapped and I have what I ordered.
Crazy stuff going on!
Gun shoots excellent, has little recoil und little muzzle bounce; still considering a roedale muzzle brake.
So for future CTR buyers:
The regular CTR comes with a 18 inch barrel rather than a 20. Tikka barrel length is obviously measured from face of the bolt to end of barrel.Thank you guys

A late reply but anyway : The barrel length is measured where it's attached to the action. Your first gun was definitely the 510mm barreled version and not what it should've been – a 600 mm barreled rifle.
Good you got it sorted though 😉
