Tikka CTR .308 Range report…Its a shooter!!!
Hey Guys,
I had only an hour at the range to test my new CTR today,…all i can say is WOW! I was pretty excited to get home and write this review…I'll update with pictures of the gun later.
The entire range session was rushed due to me getting there late and it was about to start getting dark, I had only about 1 hour to warm the gun up with some break in rounds and sight in a new scope, and shoot a couple groups.
Everything was shot at 100yrds in cool temperatures so there was no measured time period between shots, I just paused long enough between shots to keep the barrel warm throughout the entire session.
I had 12 rounds of Hornady 165gr SST Superformance to warm up the new barrel and zero in my new Vortex Viper 6.5-20 x 44. I had bore sighted the rifle a couple days back so it only took me 4 shoots to zero it in perfectly. Then I ran the remaining 8 shots into a nice group just outside of 1″…. 🙂 Are you kidding me, this was the first 12 rounds though the gun and it just shot 8 rounds at 1″!!!
I then shot 10 rounds (1 full mag) of Nosler 165gr Accubond…again it was a nice 1″ ragged hole!!!
This is going to be my hunting bullet for this gun so i was pumped that it liked the factory ammo.Here's where it gets really good. ;D
I then proceeded to shoot 2 – 5 shot groups of both Hornady 155gr Amax and Nosler 155 Match BTHP.
Here are the results:
Hornady = .388″ 4 shot group
Nosler = .255″ 4 shot groupThe first shot on each target was adjusted after the 1st shot's POI to bring the remaining 4 shots more into the bull area…a couple clicks left or right for each brand of ammo to make sure the scope movement was good, did not play with the elevation for the groups. The gun is very easy to shoot, just hold and aim at the same hole!
I was totally blown away with the groups…I have done nothing to this rifle, took it out of the box and mounted the scope…no barrel pinch points removed, no trigger adjustment or anything.
I'll update with a better range session later and show more groups. Looking forward to trying some Federal 168gr Sierra MatchKing ammo…but the the Nosler will be hard to beat.
