Tikka Compact
Posted by coyote268 on September 5, 2014 at 12:24 amAs a Tikka owner, I am looking to buy 3 Compact Tikkas for my Daughter and two Granddaughters in 7mm-08 Remington. I am choosing Tikkas as I both my Daughter and I have Tikkas in 7mm mag and she also has a Tikka hunter in 308 with shorten stock and a Edwards recoil reducer in the stock. All have Limbsaver recoil pads. As you can see we really like them but I have a question on the compact that I can't seem to get answered. It comes with a 12.5 in length of pull that can be expanded to 13.5 inches. My Daughter would like to have a 13 inch LOP. Is there an after market adapter for this or does the rifle only have the two LOP? I'm going to put Leupold 3-9X40's on them and am also concerned with the 12.5 stock for eye to scope clearance on recoil. This purchase is a shot in the dark as I haven't even seen one yet. Any help would be appreciated.

ive got one, and from what ive seen there isnt a aftermarket LOP adjuster.
thicker grind to fit recoil reducer could help.i got the compact so i could get as small of a rifle and as light as i could. my scope should be in monday and i can take any pics and measurements you want.
i found that irunguns.com had great prices on the t3 compact

Thanks, I will probably go with grabagun at 540 shipped which is the best price I can find on the internet. I am really impressed with the ballistics the 7mm-08 is getting these days especially with the Honaday ammo. Almost 7 mag but with less recoil for the ladies. What caliber did you get?

mine is 308, im sure its going to kick much more than my +12lb Rem 308 heavy barrel lol.
if it helps you any im going to mount my scope at my buddies house tomorrow (optilock mounts and Leupold VX2 came in today), hes got a T3 stainless also in 308 so if you want any side by side pics for comparison i can get that done.
i have a rem supercell recoil reducer kicking around, and i noticed it will fit on the Tikka compact if i put the LOP extension on. i just have to widen 2 holes slightly so it will slide over.
i assume it would also fit on the full size tikka stock. -
I'm going to put Leupolds on the ones I get so I would be interested in knowing if the scope can be mounted far enough forward so a person shooting it won't get dinged. Of course the 7mm-08's don't have the recoil of your 308. I know from personal experience, shooting uphill can cause this to happen.

the VX2 is now mounted up, ive got it as far as the rings (optilocks) will allow me to mount it forward and there is still tonnes of eye relief available. i can literally put my eye at the back of the stock and the eye relief is still very usable. my bushnell on my remington is going to get replaced with a leupold for next summer. im going to be changing the mount to a 1 piece rail with good ring combo. eye relief on the bushnell is just horrible.
i almost bought a redfield scope for the tikka, eye relief is equal to the leupold, glass is amazing and the price is about half. i just really didnt want to buy it and keep kicking myself for cheeping out $200.
if you are considering 3-9 optics check out the sako A7 combo, its about $1300 with a burris scope, seeing that ive got $1350 into my tikka that A7 combo seems like a good deal.im not concerned at all with the eye relief spacing even with the short LOP of the compact, i would like the optilocks to allow me to mount the scope a little further forward, so maybe on the compact a better mount setup would be a good quality rail/ring combo rather than the very limited mount location options the optilocks give you.

this may help you, i put a tape measure there so you can tell the spacing. again the scope is as far forward as i can mount it with optilocks.
notice where the dial is for the magnification, it fits in there perfect for the VX2, im not sure if hte VX3 would fit the same with the extra low mount rings. -
Thanks, may have to set it up with the thirteen and a half in LOP and bring the scope back some as I'm going with DNZ mounts and rings

Thought I would give you a update on mine.
I finally got her out to the range today. My LOP with the VX2 is plenty of space, no issues at all.
The recoil on it is very punchy though, very similar to my slug gun.
My rem700 heavy barrel is about half the felt recoil using the same ammo.
Im going to put a limbsaver on and just be glad its a deer rifle so 1 shot, not a target gun.
U would say it is more felt recoil than the t3 stainless, im kinda curious to het my friends stainless out and give it a side by side compariaon though, its been a while since I've shot it. Im going to try for next saturday. -
Got the compact in 7mm-08. Put a Leupold 3-9X40 with DNZ mounts. Folks, it is a awesome shooter. Took 15 shots cleaning every third to break in the barrel. (I'm old fashion and still believe in breaking in a barrel). Put in some 139 grain Hornaday GMX. Shots 16 and 17 were dead center in the bullseye cutting each other. Raised it up four clicks and 18 and 19 again right on line one inch higher both touching each other. Wow, so I put in two Barnes 120 grainers and they were half an inch higher but again right on line and in the same hole and I am not a good bench rest shooter. This little rifle likes everything you put in it. Messed with the stock and got the length of pull to 13 inches and trigger pull to two and three quarters. Between Daughter Sandi and I we have 5 Tikkas and they all shoot minus one inch groups, but this one in its 20 inch barrel is the best of all five. We are happy campers.

that is impressive, personally as a handloader the 20 inch barrel is limiting, but I am cheering you on if you get the velocity you need with that kind of accuracy !!!

Well, we just got back from hunting up north. Daughter Sandi got a Buck with her Tikka Compact 7mm-08. Her first shot was at 212 ranged yards at the Buck facing her and all she could see was the head and neck of him. Friend had her shoot off his shoulder and told her to aim for the white spot on its neck. She fired and the Buck took off. It was going through some brush and when it entered a small opening she shot again and he went down. He was moving and the range was 258 yards. She was shooting the Hornaday GMX 139 grain Super. Her first shot just grazed the Bucks neck. It was her Birthday and she made a bunch of us very happy. You couldn't tear that Tikka out of her hands now. Great rifle and ammo and I'm one proud Dad.
