Tikka 695 gets an upgrade
My Tikka 695 chambered in .270Win has been around for some time. And has always proved itself reliable, very accurate and an honest shooter.
It has taken plenty plains game here in South Africa and Namibia over years. But I have never felt the way it looked actually measured up to its performance.
So end of last year, I decided it was time to stop the threats and do something which would be worthy of my Tikka (my first hunting rifle).
Bought a stock blank from Stratabond, and had that cut on a CNC lathe, and decided in the process that a thumbhole was the ideal option as it serves plenty as a varminter on jackal and caracal.
After the stock was cut my gunsmurf convinced me we should fit a Picatinny rail, and so we did, it came courtesy of Evolution Gunworks, who just happened to have a Tikka mount that would fit the 695 receiver.
After that the Leupold VX1 that I had seemed insufficient, and in came Burris XTR 416. Once I had that in hand I realised standard rings would not hold such a huge scope, so it was 4 Burris XTR Steel scopes.
And then my gunsmurf started his magic. Luckily for me he learnt his trade in the South African Defense Force, and then proceeded as an armourer and gunsmith in the South African Police Service's Internal Intervention Unit. Therefore building accurate rifles is kind of up his ally.
So after 4 months of seperation anxiety, here is the result being inspected by my son.
Do not ask me how I have shot it yet, my daughter was born on Saturday, so the range will have to wait a week or so longer.

PS. I have seen his test targets at 100m, and the results are outright outstanding.
