T3-TRG
Hi
As I shoot TRG42 quite a lot and really enjoys their folding stock espesially with the Quick adjusteable LOP that I find very important.
I am adjusting the LOP so I have approx 1,25″ longer butt when shooting prone than other positions and that gives a good advantage.
I really wanted a mediumcaliber gun for all those places where we not are allowed to shoot .338So here is my list of requirements.
1. Caliber must be 6,5×55
The 6,5×55 is an exceptional long range cartridge and it's componants are very lowpriced and of very great access here in Sweden.
That was excluding the TRG22 that otherwise could be made in 260 Rem.
308 was never an option, I would NEVER put a short distance round with farily high recoil in a long range gun……..2. Stock must be TRG folder or similar with quick adjustments for LOP and buttplate height.
3. Action MUST have integral rail for scopemounting, in my opinion it's plain stupid to continiue using actions for open sights when 2011 building rifles for long range
And I am NOT interested in having a loose rail on the top of the gun.4. I want staggered 10 rds mags
5. weight under 6 kg so I can shoot it reasonable well off hand.
The obvious solution was the T3 Varmint in 6,5×55
A gun that is very close in many aspects to the TRG, with a very similar action, almost same scope rail and shoots extremely well.
I had an extra TRG42 chassi, that couldent be used as the TRG action is so much longer than the T3 action.
So I made a new chassi, but kept the forend and the buttstock from the TRG42 chassi.
Milling out for the new chassis
The ejectionport is missplaced so all brass hits lower part of the port, then upper part before leaving the gun. So I lowered the port by 2,5mm in 15degree and the problems was solved.
The whole idea from beginning was to use my own scopemount system, and as T3 as well as TRG are using same rail those mounts goes on without any stupid picatinnyrail.
Picture is partly lying as the gun has been rechambered to 6,5×55 Ackley improved.
Here first assembled with the SAKO ITRS rail for NV.
With NSV80
The buttspike is far to short on those older models so I made an extension. I have also replaced a number of steel parts on the folder as i was to heavy. Unfortunately the weight is still above 6,3 kg, but I am pretty sure I will make it to less than 6.
Have mostly been using it with S&B 4-16 , but have also used it with Hensoldt 6-24×72, and here is our high mount for that scope.
A Friend testfiring it ( I had forgot the SAKO TRG bipod at home) here with Reflex can and you can also vaguely see my new NV mount.
Factory barrel, no break in, no fancy handloads……Tikkas are simply the worlds most accurate rifle out of the box. There is still a number of things to improve on the gun.
I have not yet been able to find a deccent 10 rd staggered mag for it, but Alutek.eu have spoken about making one, so I thing I wait for that.
In the meantime I use orignal mags and that works great. The gun should get painted, and that will soon happend.
The Trigger is far to long forward with this stock, and eiter I get a TRG trigger and mount there (its adjustable , or I move the currrent trigger.
I have also installed a Long Range Design brake, pictures on that will follow.
I was choosing the TRG folder as I had it, it is NO option to buy one as they are very expensive.
If I didnt have one, I would go for either orignal Sporter, XLR or KRG stock.
I like all of them and it's difficult to pick out a favourite out of themSo opinions?
Best Regards Håkan
