T3 Rings
Posted by WyoElk2Hunt on July 27, 2011 at 2:05 pmMy T3 Lite will be here in September. It comes with ! inch rings I will be putting a 30mm scope on it. 338 Sin
What type of rings and base are the best for this gun? This is a hunting gun and want to keep weight down as much as possible, what scope would you recommend? $1000.00 or around there for price.
Thanks for the help!

I use an EGW 20 moa base on my Tikkas. This picatinny rail is light weight and has never moved under heavy recoil. It also allows me to put 30mm tactical rings to hold my scopes in place under heavy recoil.
EGW is sending me their new HD Tikka rail for review. I hope to have this by the weekend so I can test it out.
For a scope, I sold my Leupold VX3s and replaced them with Vortex Vipers.
Vortex will be sending me some PSTs with their Precision Matched Ring Set to play with as well. (I'm currently testing the 6-24×50 FFP) on my F(TR) Tikka
Vortex just released their Viper HS series which has the PST glass in a lighter hunting platform.
If your goal is to keep the weight down, a standard Viper would give you excellent glass and nominal weight.
My pack gun is a T3 Lite Stainless, 20 MOA EGW Rail, 30mm Vortex rings, Vortex Viper 6.5-20×50, Limbsaver Recoil Pad (worth it's weight in gold!), in a 270 WSM shooting 165g Matrix Bullets. This deadly accurate package comes in at just under 8.5 pounds.
Recoil is brisk to say the least!
I'm having Devin at Sin-Arms build a 338 Sin for me as well. I'll move the FFP PST to that gun and put an SFP on my F(TR) gun.
I'll post pics of these projects as soon as I can!

You might change your mind about the weight once you shoot it. My T3 in 300WSM had massive recoil shooting 180 gr bullets at max load. Unfortunately, it shoots max loads the best. In fact, the original factory rings could not take the recoil and bent forward after just a handful of shots. I replaced them with a DNZ Game Reaper solid mount. The rings and base are machined from a solid block. I also added a muzzle brake, Harris bi-pod, Limbsaver pad, and lace on cheek rest. Now at 8 1/2 lbs I can shoot it all day wearing a t-shirt. Good luck and let us know what you end up with.

I would certainly consider Warne rings on the action.

Think this looks very good, and is surely plenty strong to.
Otherivise if recoil not is exessive I would consider the Ringmounts from Tikka.Håkan

I really, really like the Talleys ring/base combo on Tikkas.

+1 on the DNZ scope mount, solid one piece design and it looks cool. I'm a fan of Leupold scopes. My next rifle will have a VX-3 6.5-20x40mm Long Range. Once you've got your loads dialed in, Leupold can make you a custom reticle.

I use the SAKO OptiLock – fits perfect, looks nice an they are really solid, but you can get some little “problems” with some special scopes.
I'm happy with this mounts! -

I'm still enjoying great success from my Warne rings.
