T3 Blued finish – light rust – partially at fault – now what…
im somewhat disappointed in myself and in the rifles finish. I should have known better but i also think it should have held up better.
i took my bran new T3 Compact blued out hunting, amazingly light, couldnt be happier with how easy this rifle is to carry especially when you are doing 5 days of straight hiking.
a couple of the days it rained, my buddy has the T3 stainless and we both gave them a quick wipe then left it in the truck bed locked up overnight (extremely secure and legal, also in a locked garage), next day did the same thing again with a bit of rain.
i grabbed my rifle and threw it inside on the rack without honestly paying much attention to it then someone picked it up and told me about the rust.
there was rust all over the barrel, mostly very light spots that just looked like rain drops and a bit of run down, i managed to polish all the rust off with a lot of cleaning products. soaked the rifle in the only gun oil i had with me and let it sit overnight, wiped it down and did the same thing the next night after hunting some more.ive since pulled the action out of the stock and have it gobbed in frog lube everywhere, for the most part she looks fine with just a few small patches on the barrel with no blued finish where the rush was.
what should i do? should i re-blue the barrel, send it out to get refinished in something a bit better and weather resistant?
open to suggestions, i know this rifle is going to get banged around over the next couple years, this is about protecting my investment not keeping it pretty. i was even thinking of making it FDE or cameo.
sorry for the long post…
