Superformance powder questions
Well folks, As the title states, I have a question about the use of Superformance powder in my 300 WSM. This past weekend I went to purchase more powder as I'm getting low. At the store, they informed me that my powder of choice (H4350) is out of stock and they have no idea when they will have some come in. This doesn't help me as I'm stocked up on 200 grn projectiles. :- yeah, us Canadians are feeling the powder pinch also.
My next choice was H414… no dice. My back up (that I use on my .243) was my next choice… H380, 1 lb in stock. That was fine for the .243… but only 1 lb??? Wasn't gonna last long. Reluctantly, I asked about the super stuff. They had GOBS of it in stock. 8lbs… 1 lbs. LOTS!
My question to you is this, if the Hodgdon web site says that for a 155 grn I should use 66 grns of Superformance… and the 165grn says 64 grns, would I be safe to assume that for every 10 grains of projectile weight increase, I decrease the load by 2 grns? As far as the burn rate, it's a slower powder than my usual H4350 and H380… so it should work well with the heavy grainers.
Thoughts…. input…. Hell, let me know what you think. I don't wanna be wearing bits of a rifle in my skull. Your help would be great.
