Sightron STAC 4-20 on sale at Midway
For those interested – I just got a notice from Midway that the Sightron STAC 4-20 X 50 is on sale for 399.99 w/free shipping – here is the catch – It appears that the only reticle available is the duplex, which is not very useful in my opinion. If the MOA-2 reticle was available I would jump on this (even though the glass quality may not be up to Sightron SIII standards.
The Duplex may fit your needs if you like to dial elevation & windage but without the hash marks it is very hard to hold off with any precision.
An example of how to use mil-dot type reticles would be; Imagine you are at a PRS match and your station has multiple targets at different ranges – Since the furthest target requires the most precision, a good practice is to dial your dope for the longest target and then hold low for the closer ones – whithout a good graduated reticle, you would have to dial each target separately which takes time and concentration you need for reading wind. It goes without saying that windage hold off without some horizontal reference marks is very random.
In any case, I will keep an eye on this scope for good deals with the useful reticle and relay the info here.
Good Shooting,
-Eric
