Redding FL type S bushing die .223
Posted by newbie 1313 on June 4, 2020 at 7:54 amWant to know if anyone is using this die for reloading on .223? Some guys experience doughnut rings on the necks.
Could be a setup problem, but can't find any data online. Haven't started reloading yet. Was just curious.

You will eventually get the “doughnut” when using a bushing neck die because the bushing does not go all the way to the shoulder neck junction. Simple neck turning will make it go away.

Thanks for the reply. How often would you neck turn to prevent the “doughnut” effect?
Sorry for my ignorance, still learning.

Yea you might get a doughnut, but this won’t happen in less than what? 6-8 reloads min? Your primer pockets will relax long before you need to deal with reaming necks due to “doughnuts” if your loading hot enough to worry.
I say this without scientific evidence. If I’m wrong I apologize , but the doughnut occurs when target shooters re-use cases numerous times and neck size.
Use bushing dies as you like, if you see a problem near The neck (doghnut) then just full length resize and anneal.
The doughnut thing is not a problem for most shooters even competition. -
