Question for you guys
Posted by Jason_McHann on May 20, 2016 at 4:02 amCan you take a moment and look at the picture of the raw anodized rails here?
Quite a few customers have asked for a raw aluminum rail to match their stainless rifles.
Raw aluminum won't work because it has to be anodized for strength and longevity.Because we Type 3 anodize our rails, they come out gray prior to the dye tank instead of looking like aluminum.
Here are some freshly anodized aluminum rails next to stainless steel. There is a distinct color difference and it won't match the stainless action perfectly.
My question is, is this close enough that you guys would want rails in this color?

I think it looks good, can you post up a pic of it next to or on top of a stainless action?

I can do that tomorrow. There's only 180 more rails to anodize ::)

An interesting side note – Raw, Type 3 anodized aluminum is actually stronger when it is not dyed. The dye actually weakens the oxide build up slightly.
These would be more durable than our black ones!

I sounds like there would be little functional difference between the “stainless” and black rails. Is there any downside to having 2 colors aside from the cost of maintaining more products in inventory? If the cost were similar I would try one, although all but one of my scopes and rings are black/blue.
From a marketing standpoint, there is sure to be some demand. The question is; does the demand for blond rails take away from the demand for brunette rails (net zero increase in rails sold)? I usually like to err on the side of providing more options unless the cost increase affects demand.
Always happy to offer (somewhat unhelpful in this case) opinions lol,

There would be no cost difference. The only thing these rails would not need is the dye tank.
Here's a picture of the rail on a stainless action. There is a distinct difference. What do you think?

I personally think it looks pretty good. Although I really don't have a strong preference between the two colors. I'm not sure if this was helpful or not but figured I'd take a shot at answering your question.

I don't have a stainless rifle, but I think that's sharp looking.

Hey Jason,
Whats the report on these, can we order one?…I just received a new 300wsm stainless varmint that needs a 20moa rail….I like the look, don't mind the difference in color.
Don't make me go to the dark side and buy a silver EGW!!!!!!!!!!!!!
