Open Up Bolt Face To Magnum Calibre?
Posted by J on May 6, 2015 at 12:22 amHi Guys,
With an eye to a future project, I'm wondering whether my T3 in .25-06 can be opened up from .470 to .540 to convert and re-barrel to 6.5 RSAUM. If it can be done, what needs to be done with the extractor? Any ideas or experience of this greatly appreciated.

Hi don't know about the bolt face , but you will get the chance to try lots of barrels , has a guess you'll be changing them out every 700 to 1000 rounds imho that's if you're going to use it to its full potential

Perhaps, but I am looking at the GAP 4S version, which is claimed to get over 2000 rds per barrel. Even if that's not quite achiveable, I have several rifles, so this one would only get though perhaps 100 a year, so 1000 rds barrel life is still 10 or so years worth for me, so I'm not concerned. I would probably get bored and re-barrel to a different calibre before that anyway 🙂

I know at one time George had over 3300 rounds down the tube. I don't know about set back and crown.

I might be interested in trading you the bolt from my 300WSM…

Whatever bolt face you end up with, I would consider meloniting the barrel for these “barrel eater” cartridges.

Hi Robert,
Thanks for the (potential) offer, but my .25-06 barrel still has lots of life left in it, so this my SAUM ideas are far from fruition at this stage.
Thanks too for those of you who have replied so far.
