New to forum and Tikka
Hello everybody.
After weeks of reading up on everything bolt action and 6.5 creedmoor, I decided to do a semi custom build off a Tikka action. As such, I've run into a lot of confusion when it comes to aftermarket stocks/chassis systems. Hopefully you guys can help.
I've looked at many different chassis setups. How some companies word their receiver/action part along with what I've found on the web confuses me. I've read all actions are long action, yet some websites specify Tikka T3 short or long. Some say T3 or T3 CTR. Then for the McRee G7 it says:
Tikka T3, Medium and Medium-MT actionsTactical-Sporter-CTR and other models
Calibers supported, 243WIN, 260REM, 7mm08, 308WIN
I have a T3 Lite SS .308. I see it as a short action (at least in regards to which AICS magazines I would need). Prior to buying said rifle, I was under the impression that all the T3's had the same action. Now I'm wondering if I missed something.

All T3s are the same long action. The difference is that short action chamberings use a mag with smaller internal dimensions and a longer bolt stop to limit the length of the throw. Longer chamberings obviously have more mag space and a shorter bolt stop.
I don't know anything about chassis stock replacements, but I did a .300 WM build using a T3 in a McMillan A3 with a Bartlein barrel and I like it very much.
If you are sold on a 6.5 Creedmoor, go for it, but I would suggest that you look at a .260 Remington as that is a factory chambering and the Creedmoor doesn't do anything new that a .260 can't do. Creedmoor is just the latest trendy chambering. That would save you the cost of a new barrel.
