New Tikka varmint 22-250 issues…
Purchased new in box rifle in January and went to sight it in on the weekend. Noticed that there is powder leaking back along the neck of all of the spent cases. Rifle will not group at all. I only had Winchester ballistic silvertip 50 grain cartridges with the nickel cases to shoot. The neck is elongating and mushrooming over at the elongated section. The rear of the case approx. 1/4″ from the base has heavy evidence of expansion. It also appears to have the “happy face smile” on the base of the case. Looking into the chamber with a bore scope and bore light it appears that there may be a hairline crack. I have never had an issue with any gun in the past shooting factory ammunition. I am using tikka rings and bases which I have heard can cause grouping issues due to loosening of the screws. I have loc-tited and tightened all of the hardware so I do not think that it is the rings and bases. I am going to have the barrel looked at by a gunsmith to verify the line that appears to be a crack. If that checks out then I will try new ammunition, any recommendations on factory ammo to try that is known to be good in these rifles? I would appreciate any and all input on this rifle. Thank you, Dave.[img]http://[img][img][/img]
