new Tikka guy and questions
Hi all: Just got a Tikka T3 in 3006 and love it so far, especially the trigger. I really like the stock and the action as well.
I have a couple of questions that may be good for discussion. Is there any logical reason that Tikka used an aluminum recoil lug/washer instead of steel? I tested mine with a magnet and it is clearly not steel. Is it possible that due to the design with the lug as a separate piece that is fitted into the stock, a steel lug would peen the slot on the bottom of the receiver? Maybe it is aluminum in order to allow the recoil force to settle the receiver metal into the lug and self align the action?. If the reason is just for cost savings that seems like false economics to me.
Is the plastic/hard polymer bolt shroud tough enough to divert a possible gas discharge away from the shooters face in the event of a case rupture or some other mishap. I know they can be replaced with aftermarket aluminum ones but they are rather expensive.
Overall I think the rifle is great, especially for long range hunting trips. These were the only two concerns I had. Thanks
