New T3 owner, new shooter
Hello,
'I have never been part of a forum other than a motorcycle forum and those can get quite nasty. Im assuming that there's nothing to be nasty about here since we have the nasty hardware already.
I just wanted to introduce myself. I am California resident, so this makes some things different about the modifications I can make to my Tikka, which I expect to do down the line after I really get comfortable with it. I am a handgun shooter. This is my first rifle. In 10 days I will be picking up my T3 and mounting my Osprey scope, which I believe is something of an entry level optic: 3×9.40, stainless, with lighted cross hairs. I quite like it, but I really have no idea what its capable of. Eventually Ill be getting a better scope and asking a lot of questions about that. I am strictly a target / competition shooter, not a hunter. Im 32, a professional industrial designer always looking for way to advance shooting peripheries, etc. That's about it.
My only immediate questions are:
1. What are the best mounting rings for this rifle? My research shows Burris to be superior in zeroing and adjusting, etc. Is this the case? Sako also makes rings.
2. I immediately bought a Sako Muzzle Brake TRG 22/42 M18x…was this the right move?
3. What else do I need to get started? What ammo is recommended for the “early days”? Will I need a bore sight round? etc
4. In general, what are the best places to look for modifications to the actual stock, or body of the rifle to make it look more tactical, or just outright “next gen”. Inm not there yet, but Im just curious if this model will take rails, etc. Ive seen some pretty nutty mods, including a 45 degree rail of some sort. Eventually, Id like to change the stock to something with more angular lines, possibly a thumb hole in the stock, etc,
Thanks, and hello to all the experienced shooters here. I hope to be among your ranks some day.
If anyone is in the SF Bay area, please feel free to reach out to me as I dont have any distance shooter acquaintances.
