New follower from Borneo
Posted by ramboy3998 on October 1, 2013 at 8:19 amHi everyone,
I've joined this wonderful site for awhile but have not posted anything yet.
I'm from the state of Sarawak in the island of Borneo. Gun control is very extremely tight here. If you can get to have a license to own a firearm you've got to be very luckly.
I've a license to own a rifle so my present rifle is a Tikka T3 Hunter .223 rem. The rifle was extremely acurate till one day when I open up the action to clean the stock.
I over tighten the action screws which messed up the grouping of this wonderful gun.
So after reading the various discussion on this forum then I found out the problem of over tightening the action screws.
I now find this forum very informative.
I about to replace my Tikka T3 Hunter with the Tikka Varmint SS also in the .223 rem.
What are your thoughts for the replacement?

You'll love the Varmint in .223! (If you don't mind the extra weight)
If you're going to sell the Hunter, shoot me a personal message. I'm interested.

Hi yukonal,
Thanks for your views.
I wish I could just give your my T3 Hunter when my T3 Varmint SS comes but the problem is that in my country here in Malaysia, I need to surrender the old rifle to the police dept before they can issue me a permit to purchase the new rifle. :-And surrendering to the police dept. means I don't get any compensation for the old rifle. They will destroy the old rifle. :-[ That's how it works here.
Cheers.

That brings a tear to my eye.
If your new .223 Stainless still has an 8 twist, it will handle bullets up to 80 gr[Bergers].
That's what I shoot in my Super Varmint. My .223 SS Lite hammers with 65 gr Sierra GameKings, 50, and 55 gr V-Max. Let us know how it turns out!

Hi yukonal,
The sad thing here is that we can only get factory ammo, FMJ or PSP 55 grains.
We've only two brand here,..Winchester and Sellier Bellot. I prefer Winchester superX PSP 55 grains for hunting. I hunt pigs and deer here. Other than that sometime punching paper to improve my shooting skill.
What are your opinion on using army 5.56 FMJ 55 grains on the T3 Varmint?
Cheers.ramboy.

I wouldn't do it. Shoot the Winchester, and you'll have a hunting load that'll perform better on game. And I'm pretty sure your Varmint will shoot them well.

Hi Yukonal,
I'm having a hard time getting a Tikka T3 SS Varmint in .223 calibre from US. The supplier in US says it hunting season now and he can't source a Tikka T3 SS Varmint in .223 calibre.
Hard for me to believe. :-[But in the end I settle for a Tikka T3 TAC in .223 calibre which has already been confirmed by the supplier in US.
But the thing is that I've to pay a high price fir the TAC.The supplier in US quote US $2880 + 15% documentation and processing fee, that in the end comes to US $ 3312 ! :-
But because I used a Tikka before and I know what Tikka can offer me in terms of accuracy I ordered a Tikka T3 TAC in .223 calibre for the above mentioned price.
When it comes in to my country Malaysia, I will still have to pay another 43% custom tax.
Am I crazy?? ( But I love Tikka rifles )
What's your toughts?

You could but a used Tikka and build a full blown custom off of the action, in the configuration you want, for less than that.
But, it seems you have a lot of hurdles to jump…because of where you live.
Heck, I'll sell you my competition .223 Tikka Super Varmint for that!!! ;D
And I'm pretty sure the .223 Tacticals are selling for around $1500. But don't quote me on that. If I were you, I'd be doing a lot more searching on the internet before I'd pay that kind of money. Best of luck, tho.

Hi Yukonal,
I've already place an order for a Tikka T3 TAC in .223 calibre for the mentioned quote!
Because of the place I'm from and you know the problems to aquire a firearm of your choice,…put me in a situation that I've no choice.I love Tikkas! That the problem and I know what I'm expecting from a Tikka rifle.
Wish I'm from the US!
Hope to get my TAC in December..a Xmas gift from myself. ;D
Guess I will be the only in this island that has a Tikka T3 TAC by next year.
Cheers.

ramboy–at least you can be pretty sure it'll be a shooter! I've NEVER heard of a .223 Tikka that wasn't a hammer. I wish you the best of luck getting, then shooting your new TAC .223. Looking forward to the reports when you get it.
