My first Rifle. Varmint in 204. Pic
Posted by Pickeringchris on November 20, 2012 at 1:27 amHey guys. Just got this a couple weeks ago. Scope is bushnell elite 4-16×40. Mount is DNZ game reaper.
I have put 60 rounds thru it at the range and it is crazy accurate. My best 3 shot group @ 100 was about 1.5″ but a friend and avid shooter shot 3 rounds all touching. This was his only 3 shots on my gun. I need more practice. This was my first time shooting a real gun in 20 years. (I play with air guns at the cottage)
I was surprised it had more recoil than I thought it would. Contrary to my online research, I was not able to spot my impacts. You guys are gonna think I'm a pussy, but I want to put a muzzle brake on it. Lol.Cheers.

Looks good. I like the GameReaper mounts, I have them one mine also. When you rest your cheek on the stock do you have a line of sight through your scope, or do you have to lift your head? If you dont you should take care of that.
This video is a good explaination of how you can fix that : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=COoXVpGfXQE
This video covers all the fundamentals of shooting : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9VTMzCiZtE
Practice good fundamentals of shooting and make every shot count!

You were bang on buddy (pun intended). Awsome videos!!!!
When I got my Tikka, I just centered the scope on the game reapers and went shooting. Now I have way better eye alignment with my cheek firmly seated. About 5/16″ of leather did the trick. Cant wait to get to the range again! Thanks!

I'm glad that helped out, looking forward to seeing some pics of shotgroups!

What's a shot group? Lol. Jk.
Gotta work on my breathing. I tend to hold my breath. -
When i was coaching i used to tell the guys to stop time by breathing out and settling, and then take the shot. A lot of guys hold their breath which is inconsistent, or they breath out and as soon as they THINK they're out of air they take the shot but its usually at different places as well. Breath all the way out, chill for a second, listen to the birds, be one with the earth, and then pull that trigger.

Great advice from the Beagle!
You'll love the 204. The only way I can get one here in the states is to import a varmint model from Canada. By the time I pay all those fees I can build a custom.
I use a brake on my 223 and some people laugh at me until they shoot it. Brakes are not just for reducing recoil, but being able to spot your shots by eliminating muzzle jump.
With the brake, I can shoot gophers in excess of 400 yards and see every hit. It is almost like shooting an air rifle that packs a whole lotta punch.
Happy shooting!
Jason

Jason do u know of a good brake for my 308?
And on a side note, have u ever looked into stocking DNZ GameReaper scopemounts in the store? They're machined in USA and very lightweight…
