Modifying the Tikka T3 magazine.
I have seen the video and write up on modifying shortened mags, but the guys with larger calibers are stuck with mags that are .050″ shorter than COAL.
I managed to squeeze out an extra .020″ out of my magazine by removing the metal “blade” at the front of the mag, which is there I guess to permit better sliding action? Is this piece really necessary? Maybe in cold weather it will affect it.
On top of that, I took a really sharp 1/4″ wood chisel and scraped the back side of the magazine, shaving off about another .020″.
So altogether I removed a total of .035″ off the magazine's max length for those looking to load longer bullets. So far I've tested a 2.400″ COAL bullet and it fits very nicely (that's only .005″ clearance but I believe with the spring permitting the bullet to cant a bit they should not jam up).
