Metric or #6 screws for scope mount? 2004 changed
Posted by USMCSSGT on July 8, 2012 at 3:30 pmJust bought a EGW HD rail for my Tikka. The threads on the screws “goobered” up when installing. EGW says before 2004 was metric, after was the #6.
Is there a serial number break for the change? I bought mine about 2006. Might have been older stock?
I just removed a DNZ set of rings, and those screws were fine.

You could definitely have received a 2004 in 2006.
PM or call me 406-285-2371 and I'll send you the metric screws. We have tons with our EGW stock for the older T3s

EGW sent me a set of metric screws, and they definatelty DO NOT fit. They bind after 1/2 turn.
They did say Tikka plastic plugs (fill the empty screw holes) leave residue in the treads, and that may be what is binding the screws. They suggested running a tap through the holes to clean them out. (#6 x 48) Have one coming Monday

Well, the metric screws EGW sent me will not even begin to thread. Looking for a #6-48 tap to chase the threads. Will report back.

Well! Bought a tap from Brownells (6-48). Carefully chased out the threads, and the screws installed perfectly. Read somewhere that Tikks threads the holes, and then machines the grooves on the top surface of the receiver. This distorts the threads/holes.
SO, IF YOU ARE INSTALLING A SCREW DOWN SCOPE MOUNT, CHASE THE THREADS FIRST!
