Making it Custom
Posted by Hindsight on August 14, 2012 at 5:24 pmJust purchased a Tikka T3 Varmint 22-250. Bad first impression with the magazine falling apart before I could get the gun out of the box. Decided that I hated the stock and the plastic trigger guard. With help from Jason I ordered an new stock, CDI and magazine. I will have the rifle broken in by the time they arrive. Ah!!! a new custom gun in the works!!!! Any comments on your Varmint accuracy would be appreciated. Hey Jason…..get your telephone fixed.

Well I just purchased the same gun in 223 and have to say I'm impressed with the solidness of everything. I'm looking forward to breaking it in and am debating whether to mount a 20 MOA rail on it before I shoot it or use a 1 Inch tube scope for a while first.

I am going to try the rings that came with it. I will be mounting a Zeiss 6.5 to 20 varmint reticle on the rifle. Looking forward to going to the range. Shoot straight!

I posted some load development work for the T3 Varmint in 22-250 here:

What exactly did your magazine do?

Hi ShtrRdy: Thanks for your response. The lower part of the magazine is held in place to the top with four bumps where the two plastic pieces mate. It was apparantly jostled enough for them to disconnect allowing the two pieces to seperate. They went back together ok. Last night I “played” with the rifle a bit. Took the barrel and stock apart to clean the barrel. I live in humid Houston and do not want any rust starting.
I am still trying to decide how I want to mount my scope. I am going to speak with Jason some more about his set up. I like the idea of the Piccatiny rail but I also want to mount the scope as low as possible. Trying to get dimensions on rings and such today. I will be mounting a Zeiss 6.5 to 20, 50 mm with 1″ tube. this scope is fairly long and the Piccatiny may give me my best mounting option.
I went crazy yesterday and purchased a new stock, base plate and magazine. I just did not care for the plastic on the gun. When I am done with all of the upgrades I hope to have an excellent varmint/bench gun. I will keep the forum informed.

Sounds like a good plan. Please post a picture when you get the rig together.
