Magnum primer or Standard
Posted by Sidewinder on January 9, 2013 at 2:55 pmCan anyone tell me if it's safe to use magnum primers in place of standard. I loaded mags instead of standard in my 22-250 and wondering if safe to shoot. No powder yet so should I deprime and start over?

You can shoot magnum primers just back down your load about 1 grain and work back up to be safe.

That's what I was thinking but wanted someone else opinion. Thanks

The fact that you posted this shows you are concerned…as you should be. If it was a mistake, fix it. If not, I have to ask, “why did you do that?”.

It was a mistake and was wanting some advice if I should deprime or just back off on load.Doesn't really matter right now because I sold rifle but always tradeing so will have another one someday.

Any time I have primed cases and I need to change something, I take them outside, chamber them, and shoot them. Then de-prime and start over. If neighbors are an issue, I stick the barrel in a 5 gal bucket, and shoot them in the garage.
