Is the sporter stock pillar bedded?
Posted by airfoil on May 19, 2014 at 2:26 amHello Gents
I just ordered a t3 sporter in .223 and have not been able to find any info on the stock being pillared and/ or bedded. If not, has anyone done same?
I'm not even sure if the rifle NEEDS it, but I have done it to various rifles in the past and I'm sure it can't hurt.
I won't receive the rifle for a few days and will probably be asking some more questions in the future, so Thanks in advance.

I have perfected pillar and glass bedding a factory Tikka stock. It is a 3 step project, the only way I've found to do it properly…without any problems. I've bought a mill, and set it up to properly do the inletting both before and after, to help people out if the need arises.

So, I would guess the sporter (wood) stock is not pillared and bedded? I will receive the rifle this week and will know more.
At this point I'm thinking I'll need to add pillars, put in a stainless lug and bed it..
I've done this to a few rifles in the past, but am always open to suggestions.
I would guess that you need to mill the stock for bottom metal upgrade? I hope I won't have to go down that road… unless…?
Thanks for your reply and insight.

Got the rifle, mounted a scope, took it to a indoor 50yrd range for sight in…WOW!, this thing shoots! ;D
5 shot groups that look like 3. I don't know if I NEED to bed this thing.
I'll take it outside this weekend for 200 yrds.

I would love that rifle, with the 1-8″ twist you have a long range competitive rifle out of the box!
Edit : I got a Sporter too! I love it 🙂

I thought no one offers a bedding materials that stay stuck to the slimy plastic stock?
Please tell me your secrets and your experience of the longevity of your bedding on this stock. -
…it's now 3/9/16 and the .223 tikka sporter does not group like it used to…
The wood stock is NOT bedded and/or pillared. The aluminum stock lug is pretty loose in the wood and action, and shows signs of wear. I gotta fix this issue, so it's bed time.
Bought the Lumley arms kit which includes titanium lug, steel bottom metal, fitted pillars and action screws… a nice kit. AND I can use AI type mags that WORK properly!
Wish me luck, and I'll update.
3/30/16
60 degrees… finally warm enough. At 100 yrds, shot sub moa…as it was when I got the rifle.
Pleased with the AI mags as well. Now I will be able to toy with seating longer as the AI mag has plenty of room to seat to the lands and to use 80 grain pills. Problem solved.
