Dogtown is as always good to listen to
My only reply is regarding ammo. You can get on sale 6.5 creedmore ammo from prime ammo on sale and it is the very best
You can also get 260 ammo from prime but it will cost much more for the same bullet weight. I have never seen 260 ammo on sale from prime, creedmoor goes on sale a couple times a year.
This is not a comparison between the calibers, just an observation. Both using 130 gr nosler Golden bullets.I shot my last deer with prime ammo and it was not spectacular. On the other hand the loads 6.5 creed were first rate

Ok some real world numbers
Prime ammo prices for
260 vs 6.5 creed
260 = $320 per 200
Creedmore =$260 per 200 and creedmoor goes on sale occasionally
Same bullet close to same FPS
If you have disposable income be my guest to buy a 260. -

Now if you go to the next step and buy Lapua 6.5 creed brass you are getting small rifle primers. 260 brass will be large rifle and I kinda lean to that for precision.
So to be clear, dogtown is correct, I am not wrong, what the heck? Lol there is no “clear” here .
If you have a 260 – great if you have a creedmoor nice you have more options if no more performance.
Good luck ! -

All great information Eric.
The ammo prices are certainly a decision maker for most shooters.FYI…you will laugh…
I just pulled the trigger on a custom gun from Gunwerks…and guess what…its a 6.5 Creedmoor.
They did not have a 260 choice so i went with the 6.5 and losing no sleep over it…
Custom RevX in 6.5 should be delivered to me in 6 weeks. I'll eventually reload for it but will exploring some of the best factory ammo offerings when i get it. -

So that’s decidered then we are all correct and we are all wrong, likes been said there’s no correct answer as long has your happy with which ever way you go you’ll have a great caliber , over here in England there’s little creedmoor factory ammo so reloading is a must for both caliber , when I first got my creedmoor I had to get most thinks from the America , but it’s getting easier now it’s getting more popular ,
So what about the 6 mm Creedmoor lol -

The biggest problem with 6.5×55 is the horrible case design. You'll be trimming brass after only a couple of firings…if you are fussy about brass length (like I am).
The 6.5 Creedmoor is far superior to the 6.5×55 but when the bullet is launched, does it really prove a cartridge holding the powder did a better job or not?
The 6.5 Creedmoor is well marketed. And, it's reloading gear is at a premium. A 260 will do a great job, has great aftermarket products for it, and is great to shoot…with most reloading equipment a lot cheaper.
Sure. but the 6.5 Creedmoor, but only because you want to, not because it is “better”.

Just go with 7mm-08, best selection of bullets and brass easily made if not readily available. Ballistically. it is really close to 6.5 creedmoor.

First off, thanks for all the great advice, this site is a great resource and MT is a great company.
It took me some time to save the money but I finally purchased a T3x CTR 24 inch 6.5…..all I can say is wow, what an awesome rifle. I got a great deal from Scheels here in CO. I will attempt to attach a photo of my target.
Hornady 140 ELD match= average over two range session and 12 shots .75 inches at 100 yards
Norma 130 HPBT match= .7 average with 25 shots
Hornady WT 129g= average .95My hand loads are just awesome RL17 between 39.5 and 41.6 with hornady ELD-x 143g Norma brass Fed 210m primer all averaged below .40 inches. The best groups came at 40.5g (.2 inch 3 shots at 100 yards outdoors) and 41g (.286 inches with 3 shots at 100 yards outdoors)
I am very happy with the rifle except the rail….it was bent. I am going to put an MT rail on it soon.
The trigger is like all Tikkas and so I adjusted it down to it lowest setting for great precise shots. The stock is very good for what I need…it seems to fit and it seems to keep the price down for such a great rifle. I will post a picture after I get the correct rail and the stock painted for the cool camo custom look.Again thanks for the adivce….I was able to get the 6.5 Norma ammo for only $26 per 20, I thought that was fair, because the brass is normally very good quality for reloading….plus the ammo shot great in my rifle. Good luck and thanks.

Hey David
Your post is the ultimate reply, 6.5 creedmoor vs 260 is all about Precision and if your 260 hits better then I bow to that gun and that load! -

I should post that there is a sale on 6.5 creedmoor hunting ammo. Federal fusion 6.5 creedmoor is available for rebate to the tune of $5 per box. I’m planning to sight my new savage with this ammo and will post results here
I bought 200 rounds from a sight on ammo seek
