How does seller FFL know if Tikka Varmint is 8" or 10" twist?
Posted by Waltert3varmint on November 8, 2015 at 11:53 pmProbably sounds pretty simple, but I'm not the only one on this forum who bought a Tikka Varmint, thinking it was a 1-in-10″ twist (because that's what Bud's said it was.), only to be pleasantly surprised that “8” is stamped on the barrel right in front of the receiver on the left side.
Today I checked the label on the box in which my Tikka arrived, and, unless there's a code of some kind, there's no mention of barrel twist.
Bud's ad only mentions 10″ twist, but I'm betting that most, if not all, of their Tikka Varmints are 8″ twist.
Anybody know for sure how a dealer is supposed to know the twist rate without looking at the stamping on the barrel?

Sorry friend but unless it says 1:8 on the barrel, it's a 1:10. Welcome to the site! The seller can easily confirm the twist , if they won't then find someone else to buy from.
All that said: the 1:10 twist has great potential

Tikka has NO 1/10 factory .223 barrels. Only 1/8 & 1/12.

A T3 with 1/10 factory barrel? Never heard of one. Neither has the Tikka cataloque. 🙁
Is yours a .223? -

What does a “factory threaded .223″ barrel have to do with this thread? :-[ Pretty common knowledge that the Tikka Varmint in .223 comes in 8″ and 10″ twist barrels, with the 8” being the most sought-after. Neither is threaded.

I meant factory barrel. Not factory threaded – my bad. As said i´ve never seen , nor Heard , of a .223 1/10 factory barrel. BTW – 9 rifles out of 10 over here are also factory threaded. People use suppressors here.
Once more : Tikka does not make a .223 T3 barrel with a 1/10 rifling. Not according the cataloque anyway. Nor can one order one according two dealers i just called to so that common knowledge it´s not. Don´t kill the Messenger. 🙂 -

But here in the US they've been selling the 1:10 twist Tikkas .223s for several years.

I´m not trying to get anywhere. I just quote those dealers – and Tikka Brochure specs – who say that there´s no 1/10″ barrel available for a .223 cal T3. Maybe Beretta US re-barrels those guns for US market ?
I don´t care in which twist rate they come but i wonder where those 1/10″ barrels origin from. -

You get nothing from the Tikka line of Rifles offered there that we don´t get here. Guaranteed 😉 We , on the other hand , get several models of Sako´s & Tikka´s that you don´t get over there .
I just send an e-mail to Sako factory in Finland (were two of my relatives work too) to get a clear answer to this burning question. We´ll see soon .. 😉Not that any of this matters but i wonder , can´t sleep , get all sweaty and paranoid Before i get an answer. Someone is fooled here somehow. 🙂
EDIT : I stand corrected : They have exported 1/10″s to US. Didn´t sell this side of the Pond so it´s special order here.

We don't need an answer from Tikka. The Tikka website shows that the .223s come in 8″ and 12″ twists. Bet nobody in America's got a .223 Tikka Varmint with a 12″ twist! Folks here actually own Tikka .223s with 10″ twist barrels.
You guys do get a lot of models that we don't get. I was joking, of course, in my previous post. Years ago, I really wanted a Tikka Varmint (before the T3) in .243. Tikka website showed it as an option…not so here in the U.S. However, there are some Tikkas here with threaded barrels.

I sympathize with you Sir Ville, Berreta USA is notorious for not sharing information with U.S. Customers. I love Tikka and Sako quality, I just wish the “powers that be” cared as much about the customers!
