Help Tikka T3 lite 300wsm stainless
Posted by anthonyhuff277 on August 19, 2018 at 12:08 amI bought a Tikka T3 lite 300wsm for a up coming elk hunt in Colorado. I have the same gun in a 25-06 and know what the tikka can do. This gun is giving me fits and I would love some help or suggestions. Bought the gun a year ago and am just now starting to get to shoot it. It has been shot maybe 100-120 times over the year. It has only been cleaned with a bore guide and felt no kind of brush. I have a leupold vx3 4-12-50 cds scope on it. Upon advice of the local gun store he recommend the HSM ammo for it. This stuff I tried and never did any good grouping at 100 yards much less 200. I have a friend that is pretty good with reloading so we made a reload for it. During the process of finding which load worked best we thought we had one narrowed down. I also bought a factory load of hornady performance to compare to. After today I am back to square one with no luck. I would like to be able to find a load off the shelf and just shoot it but So far I have no luck. The scope rings have been lapped and I have also made sure that the gun is truly free floating.
I would appreciate any help.eightyeight_mag replied 6 years, 5 months ago 3 Members · 8 Replies -

The Hornady ammo i was shooting is precision hunter 300wsm 200 gr ELD-x
The reload I was shooting was Nosler accubond, 180 grain, overall length 2.960 with 61.0 grams H380, CCI primer NO200 with Norma Brass that had only been shot one time though this gun. -

Best shooting off the shelf factory ammo for my 2 – 300wsm's was Barnes.
Barne Vor-Tx 165gr TTSXI tried the HSM ammo (185gr) and it was junk in mine as well…best it did was a 1.5-2″ grouping at 100 yrds.
My best reloads for hunting and target shooting:
Hunting
Winchester or Nosler Brass
180gr Accubond
H4831sc – 65.5gr to 66.5gr (accuracy node in that area for both rifles)
2800fpsTarget
Winchester or Nosler Brass
178gr Amax
H4831sc – 65.5gr to 66.5gr (accuracy node in that area for both rifles)
2850fpsBoth my rifles like to shoot these 2 projectiles .030-.050 off the lands.
Hope this helps you, I have not reloaded with H380 in my 300wsm rifles. -

Hey Dogdown thanks for the reply… I have a tikka t3 lite 25-06 and i shoot probably 6 or 7 different loads out of it and the only load that group good for me was the barns vortex ttsx 100 grain. I am no gun expert at all but i got were i have all the confidence in the world out to 400 yards. Havn't pushed that gun any farther.
I am really wanting to build some confidence out to 500 yard with this gun( even though I have zero intentions of shooting that far at a animal) I just want to know what my gun can do.

We are still talking about the 300wsm correct? Sorta getting confused with your last post…
if yes…you can't go wrong with the load information I've given you…especially the thread on the 208gr ELDx…try it and report back.
I've shot each of these loads out to 800-1000yrds with no issues with accuracy.
The ELDx load is very very promising for long range!!! -

Yes sorry for the confusion…. I am only worried about advice for 300wsm……. I was just simply saying my 25-06 loved the barns ammo so maybe I will get lucky with the 300….. I plan on buying some to try

Both my guns really like the 165 TTSX and would shoot MOA or better consistently with it but you have to manage that Lite barrel when group shooting. Complete cool down between shoots to repeat performance or fire 3 as fast as you can comfortably…if you are firing 3 shot strings with varying timing and cool down to does not do well with this cartridge…the barrel heats up extremely fast which I'm sure you have noticed.
Thats why I have T3 Varmint for range shooting and a T3 Lite for hunting…
Good Luck! -

mine shoots tiny groups with 180 gr accubonds and rl17. load to mag length.
Getting 3050fps with no pressure signs.
Groups seem to tighten up with the warmer loads for me anyways.
Best factory ammo I shot was federal premium 180gr triple shok.
good luck
