Grouse hunting 101
Early in the opening season for small game hunting in northern Ontario, I took the weekend off to partake in a long awaited grouse hunt. The weather conditions were perfect. Sunny, cool and crisp in the morning. Cool throughout the day with the odd light breeze. I carried my trusty winchester 101. I hunted all the right places….. conifer/ hardwood transitions, rock outcrops and small meandering streams. Nothing! not a single sighting all day. Returned to my truck and headed back to the cabin. About a km along, a spruced grouse flies up from the side of road and hits my windshield. Bring it back and proudly present it to my wife. ” it was a successful hunt”
If I don’t have any luck with the tikka deer hunting, I may employ the same strategy 😀
