Got my oryx!
I was lucky to kill my oryx with mt t-3 hunter at 300yards with one shot. But I am still not happy with my gun. I did find out that the factory tikka scope mounts are crap were causing my bullet impacts to wander all over the place, so they were replaced and my shots started to come into a 2 inch pattern at 100 yards. I can not get them any tighter. And forget taking more than two shots at a time. This 300wm shoots a flyer on the third shot every time. I have let the barrel cool 20 to 30 minuets between shots. I don,t want to give up on my tikka just yet, but have looked at everything we can think of. And yes the barrel is free floating. Can I expect that this is the nature of the beast?

for starters, your shooting a 300 win mag from a light hunting barrel so not being able to shoot fast is a given.
I don't own a tikka yet (its back ordered) but I have a Winchester m70 in 7mm mauser that will perform the same as your rifle with heavy bullets (175gr). the trick is to slow down… a lot. if I shoot quickly I can put 5 shots in a 3″ group. if I wait 4-5 minutes between shots, I can put 3 shots in 0.5″ at 100 yards.
you have to remember your rifle is not a target rifle. if you want target rifle results from your gun unmodified, you will need to make a sacrifice in either speed or bullet weight.
