free floating vs totally free-floating…..
Posted by herbeapuce on August 5, 2012 at 3:27 amfrom tikka website…
tikka t3 varmint:
The heavy, free-floating, stainless steel BARREL is cold hammer-forged
tikka t3 Super Varmint:
BARREL is heavy, totally free-floating and cold hammer-forged of stainless steel
Now, does somebody know exactly what is the difference Please ?

Seems like only Tikka would know what they mean to say by what they write in their advertising. In my books free floating means no stock contact with the barrel anywhere (except for a short continuation of the bedding). There has been some discussion on other forums about some models of Tikkas having pressure points and whether these are by design or not. On my Super Varmint, the stock had to be worked a bit to prevent it from contacting the barrel.

I have a Tikka Varmint and had to do some work on the stock to keep it from contacting the barrel during extended range visits!

Perhaps two different people wrote the descriptions of the two rifles, or the same guy did it on two different days.

I seem to have the same problem. The Tikka t3x varmint stock only touches the barrel on one side. I tried the s&b factory bullet and was getting half moa groups for five shots.Should I grind the stock at the point of contact with a dremel? On the right side the paper does not go through, while on the left it goes all the way.
