Forster dies / Lapua brass
Posted by Larkin on November 17, 2016 at 8:40 pmHi think of changing my Lee dies in .223 for some Forster ones , in the info about the dies it says you might need to get them horned ones if your using lapua brass has the neck gets overly thick if you don't turn the dia down , has anybody that uses the above combination had any problems resulting having to get the necks turned down

I would be interested in the answer to this question as well.

Apparently you can have problems with Honady dies on Lapua .223 brass , the expander goes through into the case then the neck size reduces the neck , but Lapua brass is thicker so the expander has a hard time coming out sometime if your heavy hand snapping the expander in the brass

Decided to go with Redding dies , couldn't get a answer about the Forster dies

Redding dies are usually better
Can't say about some cartridges, but the 7.5 Swiss are particularly better in terms of reddingForester dies are ok, but Redding dies are better
Forester are good if you do some customizing
Otherwise just get Redding and bushings -
I have never had a problem using lapua brass when loading .223 in a factory chamber<div>The dies you choose shouldn’t make any difference. I’ve used RCBS Forster and Redding, one of the dies that is often overlooked is the Lee collet die, it perfectly sizes and aligns the neck for outstanding accuracy, i started using one on my practical 20, case prep is everything for accurate ammo.</div>
1st day at the range, doing load development, 5 shots at a 100 yd.
