First Tikka T3
Posted by condition one on March 3, 2014 at 10:44 pm;D
Greetings,
This is my first post. Glad to see a site for The Tikka. I just bought my first one its in a 30-06. I was so impressed by the bolt and trigger i had to have it.I want to do this rifle right and was wondering if i needed to break the barrel in or not , and if so how?
Also what bore guide and cleaning rod would you all recommend? also what rings would you throw on a Burris fullfield II?Here's the process I thought about doing.
http://www.riflebarrels.com/support/centerfire_maintenance.htmAnd I was wondering how these would be on the tikka.

I wouldn't get too carried away with “breaking in” a new barrel. Fire 1 or 2 rounds give it a clean, then a couple more, give it a clean and continue this for about 15-20 rounds. Do this whilst sighting in the scope. But let the barrel cool down between cleaning. Any one piece cleaning rod and bore guide that fits will do the job sufficiently. As for rings. Leupold is what I got on both my Tikka's and I haven't needed to adjust them since putting them on. Enough said there. I'm not a big fan of Burris scopes, Also I think the Burris Fullfield scopes don't have a parallax adjustment either. I would rather spend a bit more money and get some quality glass and you will appreciate the difference in the long run especially hunting as you will always have light issues.

I hear you on the glass. I guess I will just shoot and clean as needed like I have always done.
Any suggestions for a nice hunting sling?
And can someone tell me if the 30-06 is a long or short action? Thanks

30-06 is a long action. But in the case of a T3 Tikka, it is a long bolt stop, long magazine…
And…take your time and clean after every shot for 10 shots, then after every 3 for 9 shots, then after every 5 for 10 shots.
You should be breaking in nicely after that. You'll see a big difference during you cleaning routine about that point, how easy it cleans up.

Thanks for the barrel advice.
