Finally found a top notch smith for Tikka rebuild
Posted by Jeff in TX on June 1, 2012 at 3:56 pmWhen I saw Mike Bushes Tikka T3 build a year or so ago I really liked what I saw. Unfortunately my Tikka is a left-handed and finding a replacement stock was a real pain. I was finally able to pick up a LH Hinderland laminated classic ultra light stock. Mike didn’t seem interested in taking on my project so I’ve been searching long and hard for another top notch smith to rebuild my rifle. Most of the best g-smiths around the country flat out didn't want to work on the Tikka's.
Chad Dixon at LongRifles Inc in Sturgis SD received my LH Tikka yesterday and I’m hoping to have it back by the end of Sept.
Here’s my build.
• Face off the small factory receiver recess and blue print the action
• Install/pin Remington heavy duty style recoil lug and contoured the lug to the outside of the receiver.
• Install a #3 24” Brux barrel chambered for .243 win
• Thread for a for suppressor Muzzle Cap 5/8” X 24 TPI
• Cerakote barreled action
• Pillar bed the action to stockI’ve asked Chad to take pics of the build and if so I’ll post them when I get them.

Which stock are you going to put on it?

I'm currently doing the same thing with 3 Tikkas. I'm having a machine shop make 5 lugs (CNC), right from the git go, so I don't have to wait the next time.
2 of them are wearing Kreiger #5 Bull Sporters, and McMillan A-3's.
Get some pics up when you're done.

Elkhamr here been a member for awhile but have limited posts as I usually find an answer to my questions in the archived pages. I'm planning a build and need to have the barrel taken off my action by someone that has the tools and knowledge to do so without tweeking my action. any help will be greatly appreciated…thank you in advance !

a Remington action wrench will do the job. a local guy that does remington only wanted to check my tikka out and the barrel was shot out so I let him take the barrel off. he had to cut a relief in front of the action to get the barrel off. I just bought a new gun last week and im just shipping the barreled action to my smith and he can remove it and install a new barrel on.

Elkhamr here, I talked with a gentlman at LRI ans he strongly urged against the build I was planning which is a 25RemSAUM On a T3Lite. He claims to have built a few and they didn't work out and the rifles were returned because they didn't perform as expected. He said if he does the job he can't guarantee anything and wants me to pay half for a special carbide reamer theen the rreamer becomes property of LRI When the jobs complete….UMMMMM NO I DON'T THINK SO !!! It's my drawing with my case design with signature and drawing date so the reamer will be property of me and me alone !

I bet chadd would like that. He is a nice guy but if he isn't in favor of the build he wants it to favor him. Do you have a shop to make your reamer already?

Yes, Pacific tool has built all my other reamers and I own them and the drawings. Everything is signed and dated and photocopied then sent to Dave Kiff. I keep the origional drawings.
