Extractor Issue – Maybe
Posted by pgosnell on January 8, 2017 at 3:59 amNew to Tikkas, just picked up my T3X Lite SS in 7mm RM. Noticed when cycling rounds (dry runs), some would not engage the extractor and come out, this seems to happen only with Hornady rounds. Rounds sit sitting in chamber, requires bumping the stock to release. Winchester and Remington eject with no issues.
Haven't fired the rifle yet, just picked it up yesterday. Just trying to cycling some rounds through to test things. Ammo is all factory box.
I wonder if the Hornady that doesn't engage the extractor will push back once fired, thus solidly engaging the extractor and have no issues.
I'm not new to guns in general, and never experienced this issue before. Should I be worried? My concern is if the lip of the brass isn't engaged and the round goes off, will it extract or do I need to bring a rod to the range?

Hi I'd take a rod just to be on the safe side if it doesn't eject the brass when fired take it back to where you got it from , it's not your problem it's there's

It might be the hornady brass that's at fault and not the rifle

Gun is going back, after talking with my buddy, a gun expert, he said something is wrong. It should cycle any and all ammo. So much for my good start with Tikka

Ok I read all replies and all good suggestions. I'd like to make another suggestion. Take one of each UNFIRED factory cases, and stand then up next to eachother to see if the shoulder body conjunction datum line is in the same spot on all the cases. If the Hornady case has the shoulder height lower than the other 2 cases I would not fire the Hornady ammo. I'm thinking it's going so deep into the chamber that it's causing EXCESSIVE headspace and the cartridge is not setting back against the bolt face and could potentially be a dangerous situation. Let us all know how the cases match up before firing any ammo out of that rifle….just looking out for your safety !
