Experience with rebarreling Tikka T3 Lite with Heavier Barrel
Posted by OCshooters949 on July 25, 2016 at 5:04 pmAnyone here have experience rebarreling a Tikka T3 lite with a heavier barrel contour? I love the Tikka action but now I'm interested in installing a Krieger M24 Contour barrel (1.2 breech/ .900 muzzle), with a 1/10 twist, 4 grooves.
Reason being I've recently experienced the limitations of a thin barrel profile (doing rapid long range fire). I know that the largest barrel a Tikka should be able to take is 1.160 due to the 1.2 face diameter of the action. But I've also read that people have had their gun smiths face off the action to be able to accept 1.2 diameter barrels with little problem.
Any input from the Tikka experts here, appreciated!

I have a guy in SoCal. If the rebarrel goes as planned, I will definitely recommend him for this forum.

Put a Krieger standard Palma on mine. They turned down the diameter at the shoulder to the beginning of the taper just forward of the chamber. Worked like a charm.

I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

I put a #3 Bartlein barrel on a T3 lite. No drama, shoots great.

If you want to read-barrel the best solution is to have 100 thou machined off the face of the receiver to remove the small progression. You can then have an integrated recoil lug fitted and bed the action to hold everything in place.
Long Rifles Inc in SD did mine and the workmanship is superb. Mine's a .300 Win Mag with a Bartlein light Palma 1:10 barrel and LRI's own recoil lug, with an integrated muzzle brake. I bedded it myself into a McMillan A3 and also inlet for an Atlasworxs LA DBM, which is compatible with AI mags.
If you want an M24 profile barrel, I would bed an inch or more of the barrel parallel beyond the lug to help support the weight of the barrel and decrease the risk of stressing the receiver.
