CTR stock/bottom metal with a standard T3 lite action
Posted by drdirt on December 30, 2015 at 3:38 amI just bought a CTR stock and DBM with TRG mag to replace the stock on my 7mm-08 T3 lite. I wanted some extra mag length.
But I'm stuck- the magazine doesn't seem to fit or latch properly with the 7mm-08 receiver. Is there a modification to the CTR action that a standard T3 doesn't have for this DBM and mag? Anyone else tried this?drdirt replied 9 years, 2 months ago 3 Members · 8 Replies -

I have a feeling the CTR action isn't a standard Tikka LA. Maybe the mag can be modified…

Can you see what is stopping the mag going in or how far off the mag catch it is? I have a few aftermarket DBMs in my T3's and often just putting a 1/4″flat washer under the DBM on the front action screw is enough to let the mag click in and still feed perfectly.
I have not looked at a ctr but maybe the double stack mag is a tad wider and the action has been opened out to suit ?? -
Turns out the CTR action has a channel relief cut on the bottom of the action near the front to make room for the TRG mag. Your idea to use an action screw spacer might work, I'll play around with it. Another issue to be aware of if anyone wants to use a CTR stock with a T3 lite SA is that the bolt stop needs to be swapped for a long version in order to work with the TRG mag.

The magazine latches to the floor plate/ trigger guard. This assembly must have the correct depth in the mortise in the stock to feed correctly. (I bet It needs to be milled deeper)The CTR magazine system sits deeper than the t3 system and obviously you needed to also widen the opening in the bottom of the stock.
I installed a CTR system in a Boyds Tactical stock inleted for a T3 VARMINT.– but this was a CTR rifle to start– -
Right, the CTR relief channel in the bottom the action allows clearance of the seated mag. In the regular T3 lite action, the TRG mag hits the action and it can't latch. The idea to put a washer on the action screw under the DBM might work to give the needed clearance, and it shouldn't affect the mating of the action with the lug.

Yeah thats what I suspected and yeah the washer/spacer won't affect anything else. The next problem may be that the mag will sit to low for the bolt to pick up a round, if this is the case then it is onto the milling machine with the action.
I did this to a T3 to accept a Roedale DBM and also had to do it to a win mod 70 to accept a CDI DBM. -
You are right again, the bolt is not picking up the cartridge, looks like miller time.
Maybe I will see if the Tikkaperformance shop can do this…
