.260 is a wonderful caliber. I no longer have any intrest in .308. Lighter recoil, flater shooting ect.
Tikkia action is sooooo smooth and trigger is great. (For a oem unit).
The original stock will work good for your hunting use.
I would get a better and heavier stock for target use.
Also the barrel is considered medium weight.
Not ideal for sustained strings of fire. Otherwise a great rifle. -

Ok thanks! Is there a different yet similar model that would be better suited for target? I would like to stick with the 20″ threaded barrel. Hoping my state passes suppressor use for hunting soon!

The Sporter comes in 260 and 20″ threaded bull barrel, the stock is well suited for target shooting.

The CTR 10rd mag is awesome for predator / Deer hunting and reloading (better c.o.a.l.)…and the CTR is $700-$800 cheaper,…I'd spend the difference toward optics.
There is no difference in accuracy between the 2 models in the hands of a competent reloader or shooter…
And the new T3x changeable hand grip will be great for bench / target shooting. Paying $700-$800 extra for a laminated factory stock on the Sporter is not worth it in my opinion, especially with the aftermarket stock options available to you in this price range…barrel differences are minimal and we honestly have not seen a difference with the Sporter being different or more accurate on string firing, the Sporter barrel actually takes longer to cool than the CTR.I do like the Sporter but do not think it is worth the asking price in todays market with Tikka having the CTR in its lineup…Just my opinion though…

Ok thanks guys! Great info dog down as always, I would rather put the $ towards an optic then the laminated stock, and we have no restrictions on magazine capacity for hunting so the 10rd would be a bonus also. Now…to find a CTR and somehow trick the wife…

Good luck with the rifle search…if you can order one I would wait for it.
I jumped the gun, pardon the pun….when the CTR first came out and ended up buying the 308.
I had the choice of shooting a 308 CTR on the same weekend or waiting 6 months for a 260…
Long story short, I should have waited for the 260…love my 308 but I now know the wait would have been worth it. I absolutely love everything about the 260 cartridge. If you are looking for a new scope and have a decent budget check out the new Nightforce SHV 4x14x50mm FFP…will be my next scope purchase for target / hunting rifle forsure!

Check out Minox scopes , for all budgets they are better than anything out there , last weekend I was having a go with there entry level scope and it was far better than my nightforce nxs

Now that the Berserker stock is available for $600 or so, I tend to agree with the CTR choice. The magazine advantages and the price difference make an aftermarket stock a cost effective choice. I bought a Sightron SIII in 8-32 when SWFA had their Black friday sale for less than $700 and I am impressed with it's quality. If you want higher magnification on a budjet this might be a good option.
Enjoy your new rifle! -

Dog down if you don't mind me asking, I can order a 260 rem right now for $968 in my hands, is that a good price? In regards to optics, Eric I also have a Sightron sIII, I want to put a night force on that firearm so I could put the Sightron on the CTR? THANKS FOR INFO ON THE MINOX, I will look into it!
As always, thanks for 1st hand experience guys!
Eric, does your Sightron have a small eye relief window? Mine seems to since I bought it new, wondering of there's an issue or of this is normal? Thanks again!

Price is $948 for blued or $1098 stainless, you think ss is worth it? As far as wear/accuracy. I clean my stuff like a saint so not worried about rust etc.

Prices seem good…Not sure if the boys at MT can order you one…send Jason a message and see.
Blued or stainless, thats up to you…My primary hunting rifle is a blued 300wsm Lite and I wish it was stainless every time I get it wet, but the barrel finish on the CTR rifle is more durable then the regular bluing..When i bought my CTR 2 years ago i did not have a stainless choice, If I had…I would have bought stainless. I have a T3 223 Varmint in stainless and love the finish.

Ok thanks again dog down! I'm locked in on a 20″ threaded CTR blued for $864 after FFL fee? I have 2 ss ones and one blued so I figured if even it out and beings it's a “tacticalish” rifle why not keep it black lol so excited to play around with the 260 and damn I hope I get a deer tag this year! ???

Hey twins, I have not tried my Sightron with my higher recoiling rifles so have not really evaluated the eye relief yet, what I did do was set up the mounts so I can swap this scope between all my rail equipped rifles. I am on a bit of a budget so I set my zero at the lowest setting and record the clicks for each rifle I shoot so I can just swap scopes and dial in the zero for that scope. In the field I just add the clicks on top of the “virtual zero” and “bob's your uncle” I'm close to on target. If I had a quality scope for every rifle I owned I would have
twice4X the coin invested lol. -
