Can you thread a Tikka T3 Hunter Barrel (308)
Posted by abso on September 6, 2015 at 11:08 pmI'm wondering if the barrel contour on the Tikka T3 Hunter is wide enough to support a suppressor. I'd like to get it threaded in 5/8×24. And put a Thunderbeast Ultra 7 direct thread on it (https://thunderbeastarms.com/products/ultra-7).
I'd appreciate any info in this. Thanks!

What is the diameter of the barrel at the muzzle? I'd hazard to guess that the hunter weight barrel is not large enough for 5/8-24 threads but you could do something smaller.

If the muzzle diameter is the same as the Lite it will be .603″ from memory. 5/8 24 is .625″, so it won't work. Dog Down's suggestion should work.

You can either do the 9/16 thread or you can get the barrel cut some and go with the 5/8.

You will lose too much on the chop to get the required diameter for the 5/8 thread…I went through this with my 300wsm T3 Lite….9/16-24 thread is the only way it can be done to keep close to stock barrel length.

Stay with the factory length, skads of folks in other countries attach supressors to factory Tikkas (I have no personal experience with this)

Thanks for the replies. I never was able to find specs for barrel diameter. I'll get the T3 hunter and get it threaded in 9/16-24. Thanks again!

the update for you is that Gunsmiths where you reside are capable and willing to attach suppressors to your model of Tikka T3. Good luck. – Eric
