Posted by WIGUTPILE on May 2, 2017 at 11:56 amHi guys, brand new to the forum and need some advice. I have a t3 in .243win I want to turn into a 6.5 creedmoor or maybe 6.5x47lapua. what I'm wondering is if I should file my bolt stop and use l.a. mags instead of the s.a. mags. I want to be able to seat 140 gr vlds not inside the neck shoulder junction. Also what's recommended for bottom metal? I've seen cdi and the use the aics stuff if i understand correctly. Should I go with a an aftermarket dbm or stick with stock? Thanks for your time guys much appreciated.

Thanks for posting that Larkin. Have not visited their store site for awhile so didn't know it was available.
Looks like a good bottom metal. -

So should I look at short action or long action mags for getting the 140gr vlds to seat not below neck shoulder junction? That's where I need some help. I believe finished c.o.a.l. is around 2.88/89 ish which I think is close to max on short action mags. Thanks guys.

My creedmoor is short action , I've just load up some nosler custom competition 140 gr and to start with I'm starting the load at .020 off the lands so is actually shorter than saami spec , the creedmoor is very forgiving about oal , even if I load touching the lands it would be just over oal but not by much , but saying that if you go down the Berger vld route they my be quite a bit over oal , and you have to be careful with the load , as the dies can end up seating the bullet by pushing on the maplat instead of the ogiv

Im just wanting to seat the base of my vlds not into the case below the neck shoulder junction, don't want my o.a.l. limited by short action mags length unless I'm able to seat at or passed n/s junction. Idk if I'm explaining this well enough. Think of ar 15 with 69gr. And up. That's what I want to avoid.

I understand what you mean I shoot 77 smk out of my Ar15 , and have to load at saami spec for them to fit without problems , if I'm remembering correctly Vdl's work best with quite a jump , have a look on the Berger web site as it explained on there

Hey Larkin, thanks for info. Can I ask what o.a.l. your at currently and does it seem like you have room in the mag if you needed it? Also is the base of those noslers getting below the base of the neck or no? I know those aren't vld's. Have you loaded any 140 gr Berger's ever? Thanks again, much appreciated.

I'll give everything a measure tomorrow case length / bullet length / oal when made up etc and post it up , but you cannot use my creedmoor as a bench mark for your Tikka as my Creedmoor is a full custom stiller predator action and the bottom metal is one that takes AI mags ,

Here has promised using nosler brass and 140 Gr Nosler custom compitition oal is 2.752 which is way under saami spec . The nosler bullet is 1.307 and is loaded 0.020 off the lands , with 39 Gr of H4350 = .293 moa

Thanks Larkin, I know. I'm just trying to see if this going to work how I want or not. Right now it's not seeming like it unless I run a long action mag. I know there's nothing wrong with the Creed how it is but it seems like from what I'm measuring/ seeing that if I want my bullets not below the neck shoulder junction of the case I'm gonna need to run long action mags. Which being that it's a tikka all I need to do is tool down the bolt stop where needed if I don't want all that throw, and block the back of the ai mags? Idk what I'm gonna do yet. Guess I'm thinking out loud here. Thanks again for the measurements.
