I recently purchased a Tikka T3 308 and want to replace the factory stock with a thumbhole stock. I found the Boyds ($100) and the Mountain Tactical ($350) and my question is: what's the difference in the 2 stocks? I certainly don't mind paying $350 for the MT, but want to know what I'm getting for my $$$.
The quality control on Boyd's stocks seem to be lacking these days. There is no way they test fit every stock to an action before it leaves their facility!
We tried fitting one to my buddies T3 223 a few months back and the barrel channel was so off we could not assemble the rifle. The stock was warped and the inletting was cut 1/8″ more to one side (see pics). They refunded the money right away but the wait and headache was more than we wanted to go through again to place another order for a replacement. They did ask for pictures of the problem and we had to cut the stock in half and provide a picture of the stock in 2 pcs before the refund. I've seen them fit like a glove on some rifles but it hit or miss with a $100.00 stock.
Everyone seems to have a great review for MT stocks so that would be my choice even though its more money. You get what you pay for.
You are one of the lucky ones…glad you did not have the same experience. Theres nothing more frustrating then waiting for something and when it finally arrives you are disappointed.
