Bolt Jamming with Winchester ammo
Hi all,
Im new to the forum and was hoping some of the more in tuned shooters could help me with my Tikka T3 lite stainless composite 300wsm. The gun is brand new and when I went to sight in my new Trijicon 2.5-10×56, I purchased Winchester accubond ammo. I fired three shots out of it and the fourth was jammed and the bolt would not open without heavy force. It almost appeared as if the bullets were swelling too much or something to that nature. I'm not very knowledgeable on the rifle since this is the first I have owned so please go easy. Lol. I have also purchased federal ammo but I am a bit hesitant to shoot it if something is wrong with my new gun from the factory. What are your thoughts and has anyone had trouble with this?? Rifle season has already started here and I'm worried I may be gunless

Often new guns will have grease or oil in the chamber and barrel. Did you clean that out first? If not, clean thoroughly with a good solvent and then use dry patches. Then shoot again. If it does the same thing then go back to the dealer with it and explain the problem.

I didn't clean it out with solvent but I did apply a thin layer of oil on the bolt and the chamber. I just use Hoppes or should I use something else?

That sounds like it might be the problem. The chamber and barrel (especially the chamber) should be free of oil before you fire the rifle, otherwise the chamber pressure can rise dramatically. Hoppes no. 9 is fine for cleaning the oil out, but also follow up with dry patches and get the Hoppes out too. Also you don't want any oil on the bolt face. Hope this helps
