A couple of Aussie Tikkas
Posted by Anonymous on October 14, 2014 at 1:15 pmG'day, my first post here so I thought I would put up my two T3's.
Both started as lite stainless in 308, one is cut back to 20″ and in a varmint stock, atlas works bottom metal and wild dog mag, my own bolt knob, standard rings and a leupold VX1 3-9.
The other one is in my own aluminium stock, has my own brake and bolt knob, barrel shortened about 30mm, wild dog bottom metal and mags, standard rings and a nikon 4-12, this one has had a couple of different paint jobs over the past few years.
I am making a start on a third on which will be in 375-300 win mag.
Both are used for pest management shooting and hunting, no range queens.cheers gaff

We like a guy who's not afraid to make it himself (that's how we started!)!
I'm surprised the factory rings have held up on those 308's. I haven't been impressed with their quality.
I have a non-typical load for 308 that runs quite well out of my T3 varmint (recently shot a .18 moa group at 430 yards with it). I'm not sure if you have access to Reloader 17 & 208 amax bullets, but if you do, let me know & I'll give you some numbers.

GuestOctober 15, 2014 at 2:55 amThanks Robert, yes you hear a lot about the tikka rings not being up to the job but I think up to about a 308 they are fine, I have heard of bigger cals damaging them but I have put approx 3500 rounds through one of those rifles without a problem, a mate of mine has done similar with his 6.5 with no probs either.
cheers

gday mate, another Aussie here…
regarding the Rings, I had heard dramas until no end about them, so when I got my tikka 308 I was very unsure…
went an hunted the Wonnangatta valley, dropped the rifle in the bush and confirmed Zero that evening out from camp…
Dropped rifle again a few months later and confirmed zero again at a later date..
Id also say the Factory rings are Fine for up to about the 308 class of recoil.
Cheers
