.338 Win Mag
My local gun store has had a Stainless T3 Lite in .338 Win Mag on clearance now for a couple months. According to the guys behind the gun counter, everyone loves the idea… until the pick up the gun and imagine what the recoil would be like in a 6.5 pound gun.
Curiosity finally got to me and I bought it. This will make an excellent test mule to see if Tikka gear (both the designs I am working on and our vendors products) can withstand the recoil of this round loaded with 300 grain Berger hybrids.
I'll keep you posted… after I install a limb-saver recoil pad… and a brake… and weight down the stock! 😮

I think the recoil will be fairly easy to tame. There are some ideas I have for the Tikka line in general that will help all of us tune our Tikkas.
If the prototypes can survive this torture, they can survive anything!

I recently bought a 338 win mag t3 myself. I have yet to fire it and am planning on making it a bit heavier rifle. Some may say that takes the lite out of the design of which I don't care because that is not the reason I bought it. Anyway I too will be interested with what you come up with.
I was thinking more along the line of trying 225 gr barnes tSX bullets for a test round.

The 225 TSX definitely seems like a great bullet for this round. I've always liked the TSX terminal performance.
My ultimate goal is to show some of the hyper .338 crowd that there is nothing wrong with the 338 Winny when it comes to 1,000 yard performance.

I'll have to agree that the 225 grain barnes triple shock is the perfect bullet for the .338. I have taken a grizzly bear and a black bear with them.
So how's the kick on the 338? I'm wondering how much difference the limb saver recoil pad made.

What kind of speeds are you getting launching those 300 grain hybrids? Just curious, because I like the 338 caliber, but unfortunately cant get a ultra mag in T3's…
