.260 Remington Super Varmint magazine
Posted by MartinJ on May 19, 2016 at 12:22 pmGood day,
I am looking into developing a load for my 260 Rem Super Varmint which would serve a dual purpose for hunting and paper shooting. The ideal would be for me to use a bullet in the same class as a Nosler Accubond 140gr which apart from proving itself a good hunting bullet to also be above average for shooting down-range paper.
The question i have is whether the 260 Rem magazine is long enough (how long is it) to have the bullets seated close to the lands?
Any experience in this regard would be appreciated.
Thank you.

All depends on your chamber. My 6.5 creed loads are 2.810″, and just barely fits the t3 magazine.

There might be an easy mod to let you seat bullets as long as you would like. Since I believe the super varmint uses the standard T3 mags, all you would need to do is replace the short action bolt stop with the long action one.(or modify your existing bolt stop-easy) and get a 30-06 magazine. I have not tried this personally, but it should work.
Let us know if you go this rout and how it works for you.
Good luck!

I have tried this with a 300 wsm the problem with the wsm is the case is to wide and gets stuck in the long action mag and therefore does not feed otherwise it would work.

The 300 WSM has a larger Diameter than the 30-06 family of cartridges. The .260 rem is a .308 necked down and a 308 is a short 30-06. Hope it works!

I will be getting a 260 in a few days, and the mod EricB7 gave will be used if my loaded round turns out to be too long for the original mag.
