22 250 Load Development
Posted by Hindsight on August 24, 2012 at 2:27 pmI read on old post that Shtrdy was developing a load for his Varmint 22 250. I wonder what the final results were? Did you get your groups where you wanted them with sufficient speed? I have not purchased my dies yet.

22 250 Load Development
-
Hi! I haven't tried any other loads than what I have posted to date. So I didn't find that 1/3″ I was hoping for. My current gun/load combination seem to be a 1/5 moa capable set up.
I'm going to try some 55 gr Vmax loads this weekend. Let us know if you find a sweet load combination. – Todd

It looks like the super accurate groups were done with longer, heavier bullets in .223. I have not see any data for longer bullets in the 22 250. I am going to order my dies today. Also I will speak with Jason to see if he has heard of a super accurate 22 250 load. Since I varmint hunt do I really care about 5 shot groups when I usually get only one shot on the critter. I need cold bore first shot accuracy. I need to check with some other boards to see what their members are doing.
Shoot safe!

Searching the web here are some other suggestions.

The Tikka 22-250 barrel is a 1 in 14″ twist. That limits us to 55 gr bullets or lighter.

No doubt that there were some interesting loads on that list. I spoke with Gary at Hornady about load selection. With the 1 in 14 twist he said that we are limited to the 55 gr. bullet. He also said ( he thought) that Savage and Remington may have gone to 1 in 12 so a heavier bullet coult be used. I did see several loads on the list that I will try once my barrel is broken in. I am really interested in seeing how well the Superformance does at 200 yards.

in all honestly i would say the most accurate, all purpose bullet for the tikka 22-250 is the 52 gr A-max.
it is deadly accurate, has a great BC and most match bullets are classed as “varmint” or described as being “explosive with limited penetration” these also come at a reasnoble price, will work great up to goat sized animals if shot placement and hunters limitations are respected. this projectile is designedfor a 1/14 twist so has TIKKA written all over it, im going to work up a load for a friend with these soon with varget the most likely choice or h380, will let you guys know the results and try these out and tell me what you think!

Tikka T3 22-250 1-14
Getting great results with 52 A-Max 35.1 gr. 8208 XBR Lapua Brass CCI 200/WLR 2.463 COL ,
As usual, work up your loads using caution because YMMV.

Thanks for the pictures. I have done great with superformance and my reloads of 50 grain vmax, 37.5 gr of Varget and Federal Match primers. Group 1/2″ to 5/8″ at 200 yards. When I go back to the range I will take some pictures.
