A lot of the guys like RCBS kits, but I agree, you'll probably upgrade at some time.

That said, the Rockchucker press, and RCBS Chargemaster Combo, along with Redding dies will put you in the right direction. I like the Redding Type “S” Match dies.

For a loooong time, years, I used a good scale (RCBS Chargemaster 1500), good powder measure (Harrels), and trickled powder out of a 7MM Rem Mag case. I just recently added the Chargemaster dispenser, and wish I would have had it years ago. That's why I say-get the Chargemaster combo.

I shoot basically the same thing, in 600 yard F-TR competition. Mine is a “Super Varmint” It's Stainless Steel, and has an adjustable cheekpiece. Otherwise, the heart and soul is the same as yours.

You will love it, and have a blast shooting it for many years. I shoot 80 grain Berger VLD's in mine, and it hammers with them. You might want to give them a try if yours has the 8 twist barrel.

Understood. I'd be curious to know the loaded neck diameter of a cartridge with the WIN brass vs the FEDERAL brass. I wonder if the Win has a smaller diameter than the Federal…allowing a tad of gas to get by.

I know that I have to use a completely different neck bushing when I load the same cartridge using Lapua brass, than WIN brass.

Also, are you using the expander button in your sizing die?

You can check your throat with a Hornady Modified Case and the bullet you are using, then compare OAL to the factory ammo you tried that was a problem.

First of all, you need a long bolt stop, and a long magazine, You're not going to be able to “modify” a magazine to fit those bullets, seated where they need to be seated.

Would I try it at 1,000? Yes. But I wouldn't have any great expectations. You need to keep the bullets supersonic so they're not keyholing at that range. That takes FPS. I love a 7MM-08, in fact I have several. But to accomplish what you are trying to do, I've built two .284 WIN's shooting Berger Hunting VLD's. See my Gun of the Month in “Recent Articles” on the homepage.

With a decent muzzle brake, the .284 has less recoil than a .243. And has the snort to shoot 1,000. Good luck with your build.

Wichester brass is well known for being the best of the 3 factory brass. I've never had a problem with Federal, and wouldn't hesitate for a minute to use it if it was all that is available.

I don't think that vender knows what they're talking about. All T3 actions are the same. You can take any T3 action out of it's stock, and put it in any other T3 stock. Wood or synthetic, it'll fit.

Look here at this website's Tikka store, Jason and Greg have some nice walnut and laminate stocks inletted for T3's for sale. You should be able to find what you want.
