Thanks everyone for this array of options!

I was able to remove the rail tonight using a 1000F heat gun, moving it slowly around the rail for about 15 minutes. I then used a t-shirt to lift up the rail, which still took some effort. Once the rail started to budget a bit, I simply put my pocket knife underneath the loose end and pried it off easily. Glad this is done. Now I just need to get in the mail the new rail from Mountain Tactical.

Wow, this is so helpful! Thanks Dog Down for the clear instructions and pics. I'm going to try this very soon on my CTR>

Directly from the website order page for Gen2 rails:
“These rails are full, MIL-STD 1913 spec rails machined to an amazing +/- .002” tolerance. Machined from one piece of 6061 aluminum and MIL-STD Type 3 anodizing, these rails will give you a lifetime of service. Type 3 anodizing creates a hardened coating with a Rockwell Hardness value between 60 and 70.
Unlike standard Weaver style rail mounts with limited contact with the scope rings, our full picatinny rails make contact with the scope rings over the entire width of the mount. This eliminates potential damage that can occur under heavy recoil.”
If there's any more question, I think someone can scare Jason up for a consult.
Awesome, thank you. Actually, Jason already contacted me. Thank you for pointing me to this text which I clearly overlooked.

I own a CTR 308…
– Most accurate 308 I've shot with handloads…will shoot 1moa or better with just about any ammo you run through the gun.
– The factory barrel is awesome, no complaints at all.
– Factory stock is sub par compared to action and barrel…a chassis system or good aftermarket stock will improve the gun even more.
– Factory mag is well built but there are issues with the mag release spring not holding mag in place under recoil. Simple mag mod fixes the issue but they are still over priced and this issue should be addressed by Tikka/Sako..
– Gun should come with a 20moa base standard or as an option….wish this was the case.
If you are going to re-barrel in the future to a 6.5… I would just get the 260 CTR factory option and save the funds for a good aftermarket stock…but thats just my opinion. I see no real distinguishable difference between a 6.5 or 260 in any I have shot with a good reload. The 260 as the advantage for available off the shelf ammo if you are not a reloader.
Dog Down!, Did you hear of a fix to the mag release spring not holding mag under recoil? My CTR did the same thing over the weekend and I'm not sure if it was the cold or the spring itself.
Anyone have recommendations on how to fix?
Cheers!
Glad to see you found this thread, lfaison19. I'm the same guy from Sniper Forums who recommended that you hop over to this forum! Good luck with this fix. You may have to make a new forum post, however, to get maximum exposure.

This is very helpful! Thanks for the first hand report. I think I'll still go .308, since I'm still very much in the learning phases of competitive long range shooting. I'd rather not have to re-barrel after a couple thousand rounds, which seems to be the norm for 260 (correct me if I'm wrong please!).
I do reload, mostly 300 win mag, but I will start reloading .308 once I get the CTR. Hopefully reloading will result in my consistency and accuracy.
Thanks again for the response.

Hi I'm guessing you're in America, if so it has to be mountain tactical for the work , if you're in England try Dav Wild at Valkyrie
I think you're right about Mountain Tactical. They seem to be the go-to source for Tikka work.
