Hey Larkin, did you say you had powders banned? Can you elaborate? Is this something we should worry about? I mean more than usual lol.

No deer yet but interesting observation.
I sighted in the rifle when I got to camp with factory ammo atabout 50 deg f.
Tested the federal 150 grn “whitetail” load out to 461 yds on our steel targets and the “dial up” was 25 clicks on mrad scope. I checked zero day before I left and at about 7deg or less (got down to -3 f) deg f I was almost 5 clicks (5x.1 mrad) low at the same 461 yds. I had no idea that the factory ammo was so temp sensitive.
Check your zeros!
I should expand on this, I plugged numbers into my ballistic calculator and it seems in very cold weather my velocities were close to 300 fps slower than sight in temp. Some powders exhibit considerable temperature sensitivity. Take my results with a grain of salt, I was cold, the rifle and ammo was outside all day so was at ambient temp. I was not using the bench the same way and was different time of day (light). I just mention this to highlight some of the variables involved. I will be going back to cabin in a week or so and hopefully will get a shot at the big one. I’m deffinetly checking the zero when I get back! -

I have several hundred 80.5 Berger’s that I’ve never gotten around to testing, but you might want to use a powder other than Varget, although there is no inherent reason Varget won’t perform. I’m not at my computer but I recall a guy using a different powder to load for long range (might have been a different length barrel which would impact powder choice)I may have misread the post, I’m not familiar with Berger 85.5 bullets and assumed 80.5

I agree dog, with wind being the only caveat
It is hard to estimate the wind when it varies over 1 k
I have a vavuude wind meter that gives direction and speed over 5 mph or so that I like. -
I have been collecting blemish and inexpensive bullets in the 150-160 range in anticipation of developing a good load for the factory rifle. I will definitely get some eld-xs but not sure if I can get any testing done before this years hunting season.
If I can’t get some loads worked up I will go with my 6.5×55 and hammer hunter bullets. -
I generally agree with Dogdown.
The 1:11 twist will stabilize the same bullets regardless of WM or wsm.
If you want the high end of performance and are willing to modify the rifle for AICS mags then go for the win mag. Otherwise go for the wsm.

With all the similar rounds becoming popular this will be a question that gets asked again.I have 6 Tikka’s now and plan for at least 2 more so I’m keen to keep track of these things.

Another point I should mention, I bought mountain tactical trigger spring because the factory trigger pull with the screw backed all the way to the limit was still harder than the other Tikka’s I use with aftermarket trigger springs.
The takeaway is get the aftermarket trigger spring.

Well I just bought 200 rnds of 7mm federal 150 gr soft point to get the rebate and the brass. I put the 7mm Tikka lite in a berserk stock I had, and tried the ammo
I was concerned when the first 2 groups were 2-1.5 in
Then I settled down and got a .75.
I was kind of switching between groups and steel so I have no complaints. I’m planning to thread it 9/16×24 to fit my suppressor and brake.I’m going to use the 6.5×55 for deer this year I think. If I could get the 7mm barrel threaded for my suppressor I would use it this year.
I love deer hunting and have used a different rifle for every deer for last five years… I think I love the variety as much as the hunt lol.

Btw that 7mm lite heats up fast! 3 shots and it’s hard to touch.
I bought it with a re-barrel in mind and if I do I will get a thicker barrel. -
Hey dog I have the same rangefinder, I have several targets set up at 340, 460 and 930 yds consisting of 24” disk blades and the sig ranges them well and far better than the Leupold 1200.

Hehe I use my retired dehydrator for brass.
My food one is an inexpensive “Nesco” square tray that I added 4 trays to for a total of 10. The house smells wonderful! -
I hunted with my Tikka hunter model 30-06 the first season I had it and it rained constantly. The checkering did suffer from the wet.
If I had it to do again I would seal it with polyurethane or linseed oil before exposure.
The damage was like if I had sanded the checkering a bit. Meaning the raised bumps rounded off in my gloved hand.
