Which bolt knob to replace plastic on on T3 Sporter?
Posted by Deleted User on January 3, 2015 at 2:10 amI just got my LH T3 Sporter today and am exited to get it finished. I'm making many upgrades before I even shoot it. Here's what I'm planning on doing so far:
-Elite Kit from MT- 20moa Picatinny rail, hardened recoil lug, metal bolt shroud and limbsaver
– CDI Precision bottom metal, to take advantage of their free installation
– 5 and 10 round AICS mags
– Vortex Razor HD Gen 1 5-20×50 EBR-1 scope
– Vortex 35mm rings
– Pelican 1750 caseOne plastic piece I found that I would like in metal is the bolt knob. It feels nice but I'm trying to dump all the plastic on this beautiful gun. Can I replace just the knob or do I have to replace the arm too?

For $55 it should be metal but you never know.

What Sporter did you get? I am very happy with my Sporter in .223 with 24″ bbl. I added the gen II +20 pic rail, bolt shroud from MT. I also added a Vero Vellini biathlon type sling, Harris bipod and trigger spring (which dropped the pull weight at lowest setting by about 1 lb.). Topped with DNZ Freedom Reaper 30MM one piece rings holding a Vortex Viper PST 6-24×50. I kept the standard recoil pad since this rifle in .223 doesn't kick much.
I am very keen to see warm weather again so I can get started with load development!
There are a number of places that make aftermarket bolt knobs. YouTube has some reviews on a few and several show up on eBay searches for Tikka.
Keep us posted on your progress.

Deleted UserJanuary 4, 2015 at 6:19 pmI've got the 24″ .308 model. I've seen a lot of places selling replacement bolt arms with knobs but not many knobs themselves. I would prefer to keep the existing bolt arm if possible. I might call Beretta to see if they can tell me if the one I linked to is metal or plastic.
What spring did you put in your trigger. I dropped mine to the lowest setting last night and while its a absolutely beautiful trigger it is a bit stiff for my liking. Are the springs easy to install? I'm installed trigger springs on my CZ rimfires and its pretty simple but its a much different looking trigger.

Those are plastic knobs
I'm happy with the trigger springs I got from earniethegunsmith -

I bought a “Varmint” spring from earniethegunsmith also. It was easy to install, just remove the trigger group like in the Tikka Shooters video, back out the tension screw entirely and swap springs. Replace in reverse order.

mine has the plastic knob but I don't want it im getting it threaded for a diff knob. I don't wanna sell my bolt but I cant get the plastic ball off.

What is peoples opinion of the stright bolt handle vs. the swept back bolt handle?
-
I like both, and have both….the straight handle cycles faster and easier IMO…but swept looks better on the rifle.

Thanks for the reply, I think I may go straight just to try it out… I can always get a swept one later if I dont like it.

The T3X bolt knob is steel and a straight swap. That said ie (and imho) Tikka Performance bolt handle would be a better choice.
I myself use an aftermarket handle and i can use whatever shape bolt knob i desire: aluminium, plastic, rubber, Stainless or carbon fiber since the handle is threaded. -
I am gonna make an order for the straight handle.
AtlasWorxs deluxe kit is what I am gonna order.
Bolt shroud, Bolt handle, and Alum bottom trigger guard. -
You'd be better going to mountain tactical
I am in the process of making an order from Mountain Tactical as well but, the owner of AtlasWorx and I have been convers'ng for a good part of a year and I am willing to give him the biz as well.
