New Tikka owner with questions.
Posted by northernexposure on September 11, 2012 at 11:46 pmGreetings everyone. Yeah, I'm new here. Just bought my first Tikka and love it…. except one thing. This rifle kicks like a mule! After ten rounds I feel like I went ten rounds with Mike Tyson!
The rifle in question is the T3 HB 300wsm.
I looked on the shop page, and saw that a muzzle brake was available for the “varmint” series… but I'm unsure if that will fit my barrel (.870 od) or if it would help any.
Thanks in advance!Note: what were they thinking when they produced this rifle? 300 wsm for VARMINTS???

I have a friend that bought a T3 in .338 Win Mag. The first thing he had done to it, before even firing it, is to have a muzzle brake and different recoil pad installed

Call Jason at the Tikka Performance. He will help you! Good luck on fixing that flintch (spelling). You know what I mean.

After this past weekend, I had a purple shoulder and a nice knob on the bridge of my nose from the scope… But I loved every moment of it! ;D

I have a Remington Model 7 , 300 Short Action Ultra Mag. Competes with WSM. The rifle has a 22 inch barrel and is my favorite hog gun. I don't think it kicks any more than my .308 Remington Sendaro.

Well, back on topic here…. anyone know if that muzzle brake will fit?

Take it to a gun smith. $100 to $150 will get you one installed. It'll be seemless, much nicer looking then some bolt on job.

I guess I failed to mention… gunsmiths are hard to find around here. Kinda like trying to find hen's teeth.

(I am new to this forum but have done the research) depending on if your barrel is threaded or not Grizzley muzzle brake .com is a good choice for clamp and threaded recoil reduce average 50% no accuracy issue's between the both as well. if you dont want one try recoil pad or better preload of bypod or a sled.

We have a muzzle brake that will fit on your gun with no gunsmithing required.

You are VERY lucky to have the 300WSM in a heavy barrel. Beretta stopped importing the heavy barreled varmint models this year (I have no idea why!?!?!)
I personally use this brake on my F (T/R) rifle and love it.

Quite sure the Cabellas here in Manitoba has about ten more of them in the 300 WSM.
Still don't know what kind of “varmint” requires the use of a 300 WSM… But if I find one, I'm set!On topic here… I did manage to find a Limbsaver recoil pad (precision fit) here locally. Works like a charm!

The Limbsaver is a life saver! They're great on the higher caliber Tikkas
You guys in Canada get all the fun Tikkas while us poor sops here in the US just dream from across the border 😉
Getting you the muzzle brake in Canada is no problem. We ship tons of Tikka parts to Canada and have been cleared with Border Patrol.
Enjoy the gun! Maybe if you see a r.o.u.s. you can use your 300wsm “varmint” gun on it!
